How many Mags are Enough?

How many magazines do you think you should have for each of your guns (that take magazines obviously)? I suppose this question is along the lines of "how much ammo should you have?" (Answer: never enough). But was just curious what you all thought?

For my rifles that take magazines I have about 5 per each gun. For the pistols I have 2-3 for each gun.

Just curious to know what you all thought.

For self defense I got as many as I can carry. If I can't hit you, hopefully you run out of ammo before I do. An instructor once told me bullets = Time. The more you have the more time you have to move to cover, retreat, ect. If all you got is 1 mag dump and your load is blown Good luck.

I have around 20 mags of various types and capacities for the AR. For the PPQ I want to have 8 (4 15s and 4 17s). For the Shield I think I just want 2 of each size. Why are those little Shield mags so expensive though?!

2 for range only minimum and at least 3 for carry.

Never use your carry mags at the range often.

Depends on the firearm but I target 10 to have on hand per pistol. This allows you to keep some at home in storage should a mag fail on you. Also makes range days/ pistol classes so much easier. Load a bunch at home and rotate through the day so not always frantically loading your 3 to 4 working mags.

I think the question should be a bit more specific.
A) Lets say for average daily carry perhaps 2 or 3 spares. But if things are bad around where you move why not carry as many as you can?
B) If you are hunting in the woods for the average hunting guy all you need is one.
C) Long range shooters will do ok wtih 2 or 3 high quality magazines like AI system.
D) For a WROL situation with a carbine lets say no less than 8+1 magazines loaded with 30 rounds each.
E) Are you and Mini14, AR, AKM enthusiast? Perhaps 10 mags per upper is enough?
F) Are you a prepper? will your family be armed to help with security and do you have enough mags for everyone? Is 100 magazines enough to have backup and spares for everyone?

So many scenarios.

from a 'what to keep on hand" stand point i would say 10 good quality ,ags in good working order for each firearms that you own. that is a minimum and you should buy 1 or 2 extras (new) whenever you can to keep them on hand.

for self defense, i would try to have 4 or more mags, 1 in the gun, 2 spares on your strong side, and 1 (or 2 if it is doable) on the weak side

I have 3 minimum for each firearm that takes a magazine. That number is enough in my opinion for firearms that have no defensive purpose, basically those that I either only hunt with or only shoot at the range occasionally and never intend to carry. For my firearms used for carry/home defense, I have tons of magazines each. AR along I probably have around 30 and one of my pistols I am around 15 or so. My Glock mag collection is now growing since it has become my main carry piece.

I don't think you can have too many. They do wear out, get broken and lost. I guess like anything, it depends on you.I have several for my 1911, but only one for my pocket hammerless. I also don't shoot it, but would if I had to. I also can't find any for my Baby Eagle. Magnum Research had them but who knows anymore.

When I shot competitively the right number was about 6. Living in a restricted capacity world the right number is about 50.

Foe my AR's I have about 35 mags (All 30 rounders). Had to toss that out there for the haters.

Handguns; 1911's I have close to twenty of them.

Other semi's at least five per, some guns I have more.
