How Often Should I Clean My Carry Gun?

Gotcha, give it to the wife.
I once put a stainless steel revolver in a dishwasher and ran it to see if it would clean it up. It didn't clean it very well. Not a smart idea, with the lead residue and all but, I know a lot more now than I did 25 years ago.

Any soluble lead went down the drain. Nothing to worry about there.

Try 500 or 1000.
I'm a clean-a-holic. Especially with the rifles. I like to bore snake them before they go into the safe. I don't clean other people's stuff; but for my stuff I like to keep it perfect.

My 642 is my POCKET QUEEN, has been for the last six years and will be for a long time. It it ever fails to shoot, which I doubt it ever will then I'll do a complete cleaning. Until then i'll just carry on, Business as usual.

After I shoot a gun, I clean that gun.
As for my carry gun, I clean them about once a month. It's a quick clean, take apart, wipe down, dab of oil and back together.

In my opinion a carry gun should be clean. In a holster or a pocket they get lint and crud in them. Will they still function? Most likely yes. But why take the chance? Some of you former military guys are disappointing your drill instructors/sergeants by carrying dirty!
