How to survive high inflation or even hyper inflation.

This is a great thread and it may prove very timely.

I feel for the first time in my life we might seriously be looking at the beginning.

Look at it in another way to put into perspective. Put yourself in the shoes of a "future historian" looking back at when it began, they may say something like it began sometime after the 2008 crash with the "too big to fail bailouts" and ctrl-P money printing and then increased incrementally until midway through bidens term when it was no longer sustainable due to _____________ whatever.

I don't think we're that far off. Politicians don't even bother talking about balancing the budget or paying the debt down. They know that ship has sailed. Done. Not happening. I read a stat that we aren't that far off from a time when our GDP won't be able to pay the interest. The amount of money we're in debt is difficult to comprehend how much. It's astronomical.

I'm not an economist at all and I'm a bit of a noob on this. But IMO we are toast when one of the following 2 events take place.

1- we lose our position as the global reserve currency. Historically speaking global reserve currencies seem to have an average lifespan of 80-100 years. We're nearing the end of the historical average.

2- we have to keep printing money out of thin air to pay an ever increasingly massive debt load and interest obligation. The longer it goes on the more challenging it will get to keep that up. If our economy slows down this will become increasingly difficult.

I don't see anyway this ends other than badly and in chaos. How it gets there and what it will look like I'm not sure.

Should we invest in stocks and mutual funds? Crypto? Precious metals? Non perishable food? Tangible items like paid off cars, clothing etc...

The advice in this book comes from practical experience of the inflation in Argentina in the early 2000's. Gold was key but the type of gold was also important. Gold coins were worth a lot in terms of the local argentine currency. Bringing a gold coin to a gold dealer could result in a target on your back or a burglary at night. Basic gold jewelry turned out to be a wise investment. Nothing fancy but gold chains allowed the author to take a few links to the dealer and exchange them for cash. He even talked about how he put on an oscar winning performance and would get tearful about selling his grandma's precious jewelry. It was an act to keep him under the radar of those looking to rob people with gold. If you're going to buy gold coins I'd recommend the 1/10th ounce coins over the 1 ounce coins. They will make you a smaller target for thieves, which will be ever present in a hyperinflationary environment.

I've been investing in my hand tool collection for years. Been doubling up on garden tools as well. Doing it on the cheap at garage and estate sales. Only buying truly useful stuff. At thrift stores over the years fleece and winter clothing.

I grew up working on a farm over the years and then on merchant marine ships. Nothing goes to waste and there are multiple creative ways to solve problems.

My only regret is not having a still. Yet....

#1 is already happening. Whether you believe in the “globalist cabal” or not, China’s infiltration of our government and American’s addiction to cheap Chinese products has set this in motion. Trump was trying to stop it. Current administration diving in headlong.

#2 is also at a dangerous level. Of all the IS money ever printed, 40 to 50% has been printed in the past year or so. Think about that. Your savings are worth half of what they were a year ago.

Only 9% of the $2 Trillion for the latest stimulus bill goes directly to people. The rest is pork and payoffs. Fewer people will get stim checks than under Trump but Biden is “showering” us with money and staving off poverty. Lulz.

if things really go to hell I’m not sure how long precious metals will help. At some point you can’t eat silver. Skill set improvements, tools, ammo and prepping in general seem to be the safety net if all goes south.

if you’re going to invest in some precious metals it seems that physical silver is the way to go. Lots of experienced folks here with more knowledge than me.

The thing with silver now is that the goverment imposed a $10 premium on silver. which discourages buying. Gold and Plat. have about a 200 premium on it . You get some of back when you cash it out , .

I was at the dealer last week , I bought 200oz of silver and paid the premiums on it . I still had 5K cash in my hand but he didnt have anything left to sell me. Ive read about the stories online and figured it was just bullshit , but it wasnt. 3 weeks ago I went to buy platinum , one dealer was out the other had only two coins which he sold to me. but he didnt have anymore . the physical market is real tight right now .

Some people say there is going to be short squeeze on silver in March when the comex contracts come due , I dont know anything about it except that silver is definitely getting hard to get

Inflation is comming according to the FED. they say 2% but Im calling bullshit on that, thats less than normal 3-4% We usually get. I suspect it will be worse than what the feds say. and add in these domestic terrorists and were going to have giant shitshow this summer. I think people have had just about enough of thier shit and they are going to confront these commie bastards . Which is what I think these gun grabbing mother fuckers wanted all along.

It's not though. It's already happening. We're in the first stage. Property ownership for the purpose of renting to tenants is now illegal in NY. It has been since the start of COVID.

You can't evict but gov't can seize the property. It will start in big cities with massive property seizures for delinquent taxes. Nobody will buy these properties (as they won't be able to evict the non-paying tenants) so the state will "convert" them into public housing. As properties are seized and the flow of tax revenue stops (landlords not paying taxes, tenants not paying rent), the gov't will be left no choice but to raise taxes on the rest of us. More won't be able to afford so they'll continue seizing property.

The good news is you'll probably be able to stay in your home as the eviction freeze is likely permanent.

The bad news is the gov't now owns the house and gets to tell you what to do with it (not much different than the way it is now).

Oh you own guns? Sorry can't have those on gov't property.
