Hunter Biden charged with failing to pay federal income tax and illegally having a weapon​


WASHINGTON (AP) — President Biden’s son Hunter has been charged with failing to pay federal income tax and illegally possessing a weapon and has reached an agreement with the Justice Department, according to a letter filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware.

As part of the agreement, made public Tuesday, Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses and is expected to reach an agreement with prosecutors on the felony charge of illegally possessing a firearm as a drug user. It is somewhat unusual to resolve a federal criminal case at the same time the charges are filed in court, though it is not totally unheard of.


The deal ends a long-running Justice Department investigation into Biden’s second son, who has acknowledged struggling with addiction following the 2015 death of his brother Beau Biden. It also averts a trial that would have generated days or weeks or distracting headlines for a White House that has strenuously sought to keep its distance from the Justice Department.

According to information presented in court, on May 3, 2019, Tipton County Sheriff’s deputies encountered Johnson as they smelled marijuana emanating from his apartment. He gave consent to search, and deputies found marijuana, alprazolam, a loaded handgun, and ammunition. He admitted to owning the items and to being a regular user of illicit drugs. Johnson was charged in federal court in Memphis with possession of a firearm while being an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

On December 9, 2019, Johnson pled guilty to being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm, a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3).

On November 30, 2020, U.S. District Court Senior Judge Jon McCalla sentenced Johnson to 21 months in federal prison followed by two years supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Biden will plead guilty to willful failure to pay federal income tax — most likely on his foreign earnings — and will enter a “pretrial diversion program” regarding his gun crime, indicating that he will face no jail time.

Suure.....No conflict of interest on the part of the DOJ under joe's administration :mad:

This deal was only to avoid worse things coming out. He's the fall guy with a golden parachute.

Meanwhile they are playing jurisdictional games with Trump's case to improve the odds of hanging him.

Could/should state charges have been brought?

This is BS. I wonder which RINOs will spin this as "justice"

It's a total Joke and a slap to every citizens face. This is like Bidoon kissing a Boo Boo and making it better. A last resort IF PROSECUTED properly would be Bidoon pardoning His rascal Son.

And...I understand the drop of gun charge in a plea deal as I see it often in the news when a "banger" gets caught, the first to be dropped is illegal gun possession. Then the "people" bitch about "gun control" when there is NO penalty for possessing a handgun with no permit..felony or drug background use.

The people keep getting fed manure...and most eat it up.

All of the MSM articles and news pieces I've seen on this make the statement "he lied on his gun permit application". NO! He "lied on the National Instant Criminal Background Check form"! Big difference, right? You know, the mandated universal background check required to purchase a firearm that has been in place since 1998? Of course if they told the truth about this, it would leave the minions wondering why Joe keeps demanding a "Universal Background Check"....since we already have one.

NEVER in my entire career as a fed public defender was I granted pre trial diversion for a fed felony gun charge related to narcotics- NEVER. I represented hundreds of minorities on this exact same charge, and the average sentence was 3-5 years in federal prison. Enter the white son of a white president prosecuted by a white AG and their two tier system of justice. im not saying its about race, but where's the outcry from the left n all the minorities who got launched by DOJs prison sentences

This is the fundamental problem with *any* sort of "discretion" in a justice system.

The whole purpose of "discretion" is to allow you to pass and enforce laws selectively that would be too draconian if universally enforced.

Any law that isn't universally enforced is not justice.

If some law needs "discretion", then it ought not be a law at all.
