What I want to know is, what cowards are sitting there trying with all their might to show if they can break a fixed mag with their strength to ruin the life of someone obviously trying to comply? How sick in the head do you have to be to do that?

Back before NY made gravity knives legal those choads on there (NYC cops) would literally have a circle jerk about the "collars" they would get from taking a pocket knife and literally JUMPING OFF THE CURB WHILE DEPRESSING THE LOCK and if the blade moved open, cuff them and stuff them.

You are absolutely correct.

I've been a huge knife person for a long time and are on many knife forums. I remember this clear as day with cops pushing the lock button and waving the knife around like a buffoon till it came out. As soon as it did, you are under arrest. Even if it took them a ton of tries.

It's also insanity that we still have automatic knife laws anywhere in the USA.

Doesn't do anything but jeopardize people's rights.

This is another reason why I spawned that AK thread to get an idea of what options were common out there.

Without a list of approved modifications to meet the definitions, we can only go by what the law says literally, and what configuration the majority of rifles are sold in trying to meet that standard. It makes the job of DAs really hard if there is a good precedent around a configuration being accepted or not prosecuted up until this point.

Either way, if they make the law they should be forced to define what is what. Which is hard to do. For example: on an AR-15, a bayonet mount could be the entire lug since there is no other purpose. On an AK, there isn't a separate hunk of metal just ears that hang off the accessory rail below the gas block, which holds your cleaning rod.

The moment they start defining anything will be the moment they realize they can't actually define all ways people could get around it.

I would love to see him argue that the reason of the accidental discharge was due to the fact of the NYS compliance reconfiguration of the rifle failed the user to handle the rifle as intended.

You keep saying this, mind clarifying what you are trying to get at?

The mere fact that a shooting has occurred does not grant police the right to search any and all nearby vehicles without a warrant. There are circumstances which would allow for warrant-less searches, but they are not anywhere near as universal or all-encompassing as you seem to be suggesting.

What we know is as follows: the person whose vehicle was searched was not the victim, nor was he suspected of involvement in the shooting, nor was he in the immediate proximity of the negligent party/victim. Given that limited information, the most reasonable assumption is that the guy gave consent for them to search his vehicle, as there would be no probable cause to do so without a warrant. Now, there may be more to the story that we don't know... if you're sitting on additional information, share it.

This case is likely about use of a Mean Arms type Mag Lock..........if this case goes further, this may be the case that disallows ALL mag lock use in the state, on AR's, epoxy or not.

State may issue a Safe ACT clarification, about use of mag locks, on full features AR's...many many of them out there in use.

Only SCOTUS can save us, if true.
