Slightly overpriced for a Group sideplate gun, and you'd really like to know who did the build. They are fun to shoot but need a pickup truck, an assistant and $3 per round to shoot.

"Class 3" is a reference to a National Firearms Act gun, usually meaning a machinegun, silencer, AOW, destructive device or short barrel rifle/shotgun.

This M2 is an automatic firearm. Machineguns are expensive because they were not importable after 1968 and all manufacture for civilian ownership was cut off in May 1986.

Just to give you the ballpark:

M16A2 -- $29,000
MP5 -- $34,000
M60 -- $45,000
Standard Uzi -- $14,000

Ok I remember calling them class 3 weapons back in the day. But I believe that is incorrect. To be technical a class 3 dealer can sell title 2 weapons. That's where my confusion was. I'm well aware of the silly NFA laws though. But look at the m16 you listed. Doesn't seem logical a 50 cal machine gun would be 4k less. It should easily fetch close to 100k if not more.

So just to give a mini-dose of pricing info:

- The belt fed guns have lagged in terms of price relative to subguns and assault rifles. Primary reason is ammo cost: the .308 Australian surplus I used to shoot at $0.12 per round is now $0.75 per round, when you can find it. Add that your typical belt fed needs a truck to carry the gun and tripod, and shooting a belt fed requires outdoor full auto friendly ranges which are few and far between except out West. So an M60 that was $35K in 2003 is only 45K today. Even worse the full auto 1919 that was $12K in 2003 is $14K today.

- Contrast that with the easier to shoot subguns. Pick the M16. There are a number of original Colt, H&R and other factory M16s manufactured prior to 1986, as well as conversions of AR15s and conversion devices in the form of drop in auto sears (RDIASs) and lightning links. In 2003, an M16A1 would have been under $10K. Today that same rifle is $25k+. An RDIAS would have been $10,000 in 2009 and sells for $32,000+ today.

The M60 you linked to is both 2x overpriced, and inferior. The most desirable M60s are the factory original, which were made by New England Maremount and SACO Defense (related companies). Those will get the $45K in today's market. An Erb gun (Charlie Erb was a class 2 manufacturer) and other aftermarket makes such as Rock Island are worth up to $10k less. Note also and importantly M60s are IMHO an undesirable gun for a shooter to own. The receivers are prone to stretching from use and will eventually be rendered unserviceable as a result. I think a 25k m16 is overpriced as well. The second m60 listing has a buy it now of 42k. Let's keep an eye on it and see how close it gets to that. BTW can anyone find a price on a good condition transferable m2?

M2 carbines still don't command great money. $6K for a Plainfield (inferior, and not GI-compatible); $7-8K for an M1 conversion; $8-9K for a registered conversion kit; $12-14K for a real M2 Inland or Winchester (rare).

Pre-86 papered maghine guns are a great investment.

A friend bought an m16 in 2003 for $10k. Now it is worth $22-25k.

I would love to get in the market. I will statt with uzi and the like.....and work up

The RDIAS is the way to go as you dont have to worry about yhe old receiver getting beat out.
