My unit just received this to tell us that the event has been cancelled. Fort Ticonderoga is this weekend and I'm probably not even going to bring a musket because of this stupid frickin law. The history of this State can not be accurately taught and this is clearly done by design. Absolutely ridiculous!!!

It’s sucks ball but we have been talking about this for a while now. I truly am sorry and every re-enactment I’ve been to has been a blast.

That's what I'm thinking. So many of these have been canceled. They should just have them and see what the state does. If the state charges people it will look really bad. It's the fastest way to get these bullshit laws thrown out.

Move the Event to the nearest Gun Club ..

just last weekend the North and South Scrimmage went down .. lead was flying ..

when i got there they were doing the Henry Rifle (45-70 black powder) event ..

when they have the weekend event here all the ranges are closed .. no trap , no skeet .. the place is for the event only ..

In a federal sense yes. NY defines a rifle as;
"Rifle" means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and
intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and
made or remade to use the energy of the explosive to fire only a single
projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger
using either: (a) fixed metallic cartridge; or (b) each projectile and
explosive charge are loaded individually for each shot discharged. In
addition to common, modern usage, rifles include those using obsolete
ammunition not commonly available in commercial trade, or that load
through the muzzle and fire a single projectile with each discharge, or
loading, including muzzle loading rifles, flintlock rifles, and black
powder rifles.

The bs about rifles including flintlocks is in one of the new laws.

The state has theses events over a barrel, insurance won't cover illegal activities.

It's not what heil hochul says.
It's what the LAW says.
And the law does not discriminate the muskets that re-enactors bring (many are valid, shootable, muskets) from other kinds of firearms. It just says "you can't bring a firearm to a gathering". Especially since many of these events are on newly created "sensitive" locations.

Heil hochul only looks even more stupid when she tries to claim something is not illegal when it distinctly falls under the new law. ie: the training courses that they are NOW claiming are not required for upstate people, even though the law does NOT say that.

Sooner or later they will start enforcing that on upstate. Without it being enjoined or flat thrown out in court we are at risk.

Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys should re-claim the Fort back to Vermont, and while they are at it re-claim everything that King George and the Duke of York (yeah, Gov Wentworth too) stole east of the Hudson and gave to FUNY.

I have to agree, that I wish these organizations would either not comply or sue. Who is going to take a stand? We can't wait for these gun groups to chip away at the edges with preemptive lawsuits that get thrown out on standing or other technical grounds and don't address the full extent of the new restrictions.

What did Fort Klock have to lose? They're talking about their precious 501(c)(3) status as if the IRS is out auditing them for the unlawful presence of muzzleloaders. I get trying to be compliant but this reeks of institutional cowardice. What did they really have to lose? Most likely the authorities would allow and ignore the reenactment, which is a win, or they would try to shut it down in which case they would look like fools and set up the law for being struck down in a very unsympathetic case. My money is that none of the relevant authorities would do anything about it.

No, because the "shotgun" definition now includes "In addition to common, modern usage, shotguns include those using obsolete ammunition

And shotguns are no-go in sensitive and restricted locations too.

And don't even think about taking the stock off and making a pistol-only or birds head grip muzzleloader that can't be shoulder-mounted, because now you have an "any other weapon" firearm that is a felony to so much as possess in New York. No joke!

As I said earlier, at an event like a reanactment, insurance is a consideration. If you run on 81 when it is closed your insurance company won't pay if there is a claim. You were doing something illegal at the time. I have to think it would be the same at an historical event, if particiapting in a technically illegal activity and injured, you are on your own, or worse, someone is suing.
