One of my local gun shops wanted $24/ box for Federal 180 grain soft point .308. I'm used to paying less for Gold Medal Match at Cabelas. Usually this stuff is $15-$19.99.

You can't tell me that people are buying that for self defense...

I went ahead and bought some 5.56 and 9mm. It's not like I stiffed them.

I should have bought up 100s of more rounds of Coe Lokts when Wal Mart was running them at $11/box last fall.

I was prepared for $20/box for plain Jane ammo. I would have walk out with 200.


It's not their fault, I just couldn't do it.


I try to shop local shops now ,but man when Wal Fart pulls all ammo it's going to leave a serious price vaccum here. I'll start ordering online and having it shipped to my local FFL. Seems like the options are shrinking here all the time.


I wish I was rich enough to support local all the time, but I'm just not there.

Which Cabella's do you shop at?! I have never been in one that sold match 308 for less than 30$ a box.
That sounds like a pretty typical retail price for 308 soft points. Its why I rarely buy ammo from brick and mortar stores.

Runnings has some ammo in clay, but you are limited to two box’s of the same ammo.

Yes it is a good price but Target sports has it for $340 @1k roud box and that is not bad in the current situation. I may order a couple more just in case. along with a couple hundred more 6.5 Grendel,

I've seen eatimates of as many as 2 million first time gun buyers since January.

2020 is certainly an interesting year.

The one near Reading has sales on Gold Medal right around my birthday, usually its $21.99/box.

Yep, I'm in good shape. I keep a 'healthy' supply at all times. I have also been reloading for my handguns as well. I think 'Ol MO' will be o.k.!

6 mos. ago, Hornady Precision Hunter .308 Win was $26/box of 20 from a well-known online retailer. Great price. (This was $1 more per box than the same in 30-06 Sprg, just cuz it's .308 Win, which we all know is a very popular cartridge currently). I DID order a case of the 30-06 at that time.

When I was ready to actually order some .308 a few weeks later, sold out. Ok. Signed up for notification when back in stock. A few days ago, back in stock for $29.16/box, 37 boxes available at this price. Ok, I was happy it was available. By the time I got up and grabbed my wallet, got my debit card and sat back down, sold out. Damn, was I disappointed.

So today, it's back in stock, $33 and change per box. As much as I'd like to have some, I just can't bring myself to do it. That's an extra $40 for a factory case of 10 boxes, which I always buy so I'll have matching lot numbers. It's just not worth it to me. I have plenty of Hornady American Whitetail for it so, that's what I'll use.

I'm comfortable, but not rich. If I was rich I could have everything I wanted all at once. As it is, like most others, I have to make choices based on priorities and budget. I'm just never going to place a $5k ammo order anyway, cuz that's nuts. I want other things too.

Once the big retailers opened back up locally, I went back and got like 300 rounds of .308 for $0.75 a round.
