Weird packaging from them though. Just the plastic box, lock, paperwork regarding the twist/barrel characteristics, and the spent shells. No extra mag, no grip stuff, nothing.
Guess that means time to start shopping for it? It doesn't quite fit my Safariland holster that I use for the P30, so I'll see if they offer one that fits

Yes they are real. Got them from Exotic Grips in California. (exoticpistolgrips.com) The grips that you see on their site are the ones you get. Each one is different and they fit perfect. Pricey but in my opinion worth it. The grips that are on the Kimber are Sambar Stag Horn.

I'll have to do some shooting w/ this before I mess with it, but it has a lot of the features that I'd already want on my Shield or even the P30. The sights look great, the trigger seems crisp and light, and the grips give you a very reassuring feel in your hand. Since it only came w/ 1, what kind of magazines do you guys prefer in these? Only thing I've heard is that I should stay away from Pro-Mag

Are all full size 1911's the same size? I'm looking to get an identical holster to the one I have for the P30, but the website doesn't say this fits their particular holster. Was just wondering if they're all basically the same size, and maybe they just didn't take the time to fit every single handgun out there.

F&S has a "long" version of this, which makes sense since the RIA sticks out of the current holster by at least a half inch. The P30 isn't as long, so I expected the RIA to stick out some.

They are not all the same Some have full length dust covers some have rails and some have squared trigger guards. Yours is a standard 1911-A1 government model. You should be looking for a holster for the Government model 1911 (5 inch barrel, full sized grip, normal dust cover, no rail, no light). If it fits a Colt, Kimber, Springfield 1911 government model it should fit your rock island. Safariland® Model 6378 ALS® Paddle Holster|The SAFARILAND Group

in 2014 when I got back from Afghanistan I picked up a couple 1911s one was a Springfield Range Officer in Stainless and the other was the Sig Nightmare (I think) that we had done up for the deployment.

Of course, they don't have the grip lock system holster that fits a Government model. I'll either have to deal with it not being perfect or find another. I really like the paddle fit and how the release works for that, especially when carrying it owb.

Mine has my name and US Army on the other side. Only 26 were made. My Commanding General got "10th Mountain Division" on his. Mine has about 100 rounds through it.

What's a good price on Chip McCormick 45 mags, or what's a good price in general on those (45 mags of any make you suggested)?
I get them at the PX on Fort Drum for 25-33 bucks

Anyone ever use/add something like this finger groove insert to a pistol? I'm looking to just make it mine a little more, and this is intriguing. I like the Pearce finger extension on my Shield, they make decent stuff
I have the hogue wrap around grips (w/ finger grooves) on my RIA 1911. They're ok, just not my preference. I'll probably switch them out for the VZ's down the road.
Additional 1911 mags can be had in most LGS or gun shows. I picked up 4 additional mags at the last show (all worked fine.)
