I have finally bought a Model 700.

I have a couple Remington products, 870s, 1100, 742, Nylon 66 and 597, but no 700s.
So, I decided to take advantage of an offer that was too good to let pass, and I acquired a Model 700P, #86457.
Anyone have one of these rifles? I am still not sure what optic I will put on it, but since it has the extra sling stud, I was thinking a Harris bipod.
It looks like it should be a good little rifle, and I am anxious to get it set up and try it out.

I don't have the Police model, but have and have had numerous 700s over the years. My understanding is the Police model uses 8-40 screws vs the 6-48 screws for the scope base screw holes. If you're interested, Warne makes the correct Tactical base with the correct screws.

Optics, always food for thought. Over the years, I can narrow down my choices quickly. Be realistic, what are you likely to use it for? What is your budget?

It is aluminum pillar bedded in an H-S Precision synthetic stock. The model is 700P.

I have one from 1978,a good friend gifted it to me many years ago.Its a .270 with a Leopold scope.Its a real nail driver.Left hander too.

I will say that, since purchasing and using the scope I REALLY wanted- Leupold VX-5HD 3-15×44 CDS-ZL2- I haven't shopped scopes since. It is so nice, works for most any big game hunting imaginable, and has everything I need, and nothing I don't.

I have a 1997(yr) Remington 700 PSS in 308. I put a night force 3.5-15 x56 on it. Nice shooter.

I like the look of it. I always thought those were a low end style stock, but they have been around seemingly forever. I may have to check out one of those.

Looks lightweight, very slender profile. It looks like you have a sporter barrel contour, yet the barrel channel gap does not look excessive.

That happens. I knew it looked familiar, the AK stocks they used to make resemble that one. SGA is right, the barrel on the rifle I am getting may be heavier.

There was an insane deal at (the evil) dicks many-a black Friday ago and it was something like $350 after rebate for it, but with a POS stock. I got rid of the horrendous stock that came with it within a few weeks and bought this stock for I think just under $200. So for $550 you get full bottom metal, free floating, adjustable bells and whistles and a cool look.

Yeah, I will have to see how the H-S stock is before I start changing stocks out. It could be a while before I even get the rifle to start working on it. I know there are one piece rails for the receiver, but I am not sure if they are ambidextrous or not. I was thinking of that for a mount.

The Warne Tactical (Picatinny) Rail would be considered ambidextrous. I cannot see a reason why it would matter whether the receiver was right it's left hand. The receiver scope base holes are still on center. The only reason I removed mine is because it made it very awkward to press on the 4 rounds in the (BDL) box magazine, in order to slide the bolt over the top round in the mag in order to close the bolt and chamber a 5th round.

My opinion: on the Rem 700 a Pic rail is best for use if you also install an aftermarket trigger guard assembly that accepts detachable mags.

HS is ok, not ideal but will have to do I guess. Still might still need some skim bedding. Go a shoot it and see what it needs.
Order the scope first and then you can work on adapting the ergonomics and order the rings later.
The base a TPS in steel is a good value. Will need to bed it too. the rings you will know when you have the
scope so you can measure the proper height and offset if needed. Also put steel rings, quality ones.

The problem with factory remington (any model) is that it is a hit and miss due to the variances/tolerances and QC issues.

But it is a good starting platform for a rifle. you will know know how well it shoots until you go out and try it.

Give it a good cleaning before going bang bang.

I got the email confirmation today and provided a payment card, and my rifle will be shipped soon. I will stick to my Savage 11FL for this deer season, as there isn't time to set the 700 up properly, but maybe next year I will have it ready to go into the woods. For what I paid for this rifle, I have room in the budget for a decent scope. Just have to do my due diligence. I was thinking a Leupold possibly, but I ran across a nice Nikon as I mentioned before. Just a wait now to get the call from the FFL that my orders are in.

Not long ago I was shooting / spotting for two guys with the 700P in 308. The both were able to get hits out past 750 yards. One had atlas bipod other had Harris bipod both shooting prone with a rear bag.
