I shot a frying pan today....

First time using a fry pan.

First the H&K VP9. Like butter, straight through.

Next was a Springfield 1911. Wasn't sure what to expect. I was very nervous that the 45ACP might bounce back and hit me. I was quite surprised to see the 45 went trough, also like butter.

All these guys on YouTube with their pans, not sure what they are doing.

I think I've only watched 1 YouTube video of someone shooting a cast iron skillet and they used a 45 and it busted through

The one Mrgunsandgear used wasn’t cast iron. Those are brittle. It was a heavy steel pan.

There are pans that have really thick steel bottoms. Those are the ones a 45 has trouble with.
Cast iron is very weak.
You can throw a rock through a cast iron pan.
Most pans made nowadays are either stainless or aluminum. The thick steel bottom pans are hard to find.

Now you gotta eat it. I suggest using an instapot.

I go to a lot of estate sales and I buy them on the 50% off day. Last weekend, I got 11 different pans for $4.50.

So that was a steel pan? The cast iron ones aren't particularly cheap, don't think I'd want to use them as targets myself. Much rather keep mine for cooking.

Funny, I just finished watching this video, no more than ten minutes ago.

Maybe I used better bullets and a lesser pan?

Maybe he used a much better pan? No clue. I just know all the 45 and all the 9mm sailed through like they were going through butter.

This is why I carry a Weatherby. Awkward? Uncomfortable? Slow for follow on shots? Sure.

But as Bill said- nothing shoots flatter, hits harder, or is more accurate.

Eggs just come out so much better in them.


Seriously though, it's amazing how much of a difference there is between AR500 and mild steel.
I have a couple 3/8" steel targets I use all the time. I *thought* they were both AR500. Turns out only one is.

Both are fine for pistol all day long, but 7.62x39 and .223 don't scratch the AR500 one, but 7.62x39 at least blows clean through the other one.

I have a bunch of steel. Various grades and thickness. Amazing the difference between them all.
