Holy hell you were right about those thumb studs being useless for deployment. Couldnt do shit with em. Overall feels like a solid blade though.
You know what type of steel it is?

Blade steel is Elmax. New production is S35V. In fairness the thumb studs are not actually intended to be used as thumb studs, they serve only as blade stops.

definitely would get that blade profile if i bought it again. Slowly becoming less a fan of the tanto style blade.

Tanto tip is not terribly uselful for fine tasks.

I am really digging that ZT by the way. The weight has been a non issue and its provided very good service slicing through plasti wrap and prying off stickers, this requires a keen edge which that blade has. The typical frame lock issue of any pressure on the lockbar locking up the knife during deployment has been an annoyance though. I have learned where it likes to be held for a smooth opening though. I'm glad I got it.

Yeah that ZT is sweet! How do you like the steel so far? I see that Wilson Combat uses Elmax in their knives. I have no idea what steel is used in the Emerson Kershaw. Nothing on the package.

Apparently Elmax is not a well loved steel due to inconsistencies in some manufacturers heat treatments and it being a difficult steel to sharpen. But so far it has held onto its very sharp edge with no degradation in performance. I have used it daily since I got it.
As for the Kershaw, if its a USA built model its probably using Sandvik 14c28n which is a Swedish razor steel speced by Kershaw for increased corrosion resistance over its predecessor 13c26.
It is probably the best "budget" steel in use, able to take a lightsaber edge and it holds onto it well enough. Its easy to sharpen as well. A very good knife steel.

Duh, pull my head out of my ass - it's on the website. 8Cr14MoV. Don't know where that lies for desirability, but hey, for less than 25 bucks . . .

Just looked up on knifeinformer.com - Elmax is considered to be UltraPremium steel (then down to premium, high end, upper mid range like 8Cr14MoV, lower mid range, finally low end.)
