Benchmade freek. s30v. was actually $120. the handle material is soft an grippy which i actually enjoy more than i expected.

That's about right, they can be had online a few bucks cheaper and no tax if you look around.

oh trust me that was my first thought when i said i'll take it. i already lost my $100 karambit and i loved that thing.

You won't. Once the knife gets to a certain price point you will make sure you have it at any given point.
I'm the sort that would lose his head if it weren't attached but I manage to keep track of my nicer blades. The Kershaws and what not I lose all the time, but not my Benchmades and Spydercos and certainly, I hope, not my ZT(s).
