So, if a mother decides that 6 month old kid is too much trouble, she can toss it out with the trash, right ? Or just leave it alone in it's crib till it dies, then call it in for the "authorities" to pick up ?
No, I don't think you should be legally obligated to support the kid till it graduates from college the way we have things now. I don't think the mother should be either. I also don't believe either of you have the right to kill it. There is some middle ground in there though.
If you start giving a dying man CPR, you are legally obligated to continue until someone else takes over, or a doctor pronounces him dead, or you are physically unable to continue. I think the same thing should apply to a child as far is immediate life support goes, the question then is "When is *it* a child" ?
The only question that matters in this whole debate is "When does a *human* life begin ?". Birth just seems a rather arbitrary point to me, based on the child's physical location ? Really ? How many of these aborted fetuses would have been illegally murdered if they were removed from their mother prior to death ? Should a 6 inch move upward really be the difference between a human life and a pile of medical waste ?
OTOH, you could base it on viability outside the womb. That would seem much more reasonable to me, but medical science will rapidly turn that into conception (or earlier). Basing it on viability therefore seems untenable as well.
I just see the whole "make it to birth, and you're guaranteed a free ride till 18" as asinine as the "wet foot, dry foot" immigration rules we had for Cubans for so long.
Maybe they outlaw abortion all together, but allot the mother to evict the unpaying mooch. Then the doctor is responsible for the child he has removed from the womb, just as if he had rescued it from a car accident ?

I was just posting so people knew the stats so they could argue against gun control. I'm not for abortion except in the most extreme cases. I do believe it ends a life. If you do nothing a baby comes out right? I also agree it will never be reversed.
They get all over us because 1200-1500 kids get shot per year out of 74 million, but they have no problem aborting 500-600 times more babies.

At which point in time? Neither can exist without the parent in its early stages, Were looking at two different stages of life at different times. All life requires a parent at its earliest stages

one is an adult , the other is in an early stage of life. neither can be born without a parent. infants are not self sustaining either.

We actually DON'T all say murder or rape is bad.
In some cases murder is justified, and people have varying definitions of "rape", such as having consensual sex and regretting it in the morning.

Adoption is a fine choice, but murder was never on the table really. The topic was abortion, which has nothing to do with murder.

Nope governments can get it wrong but they were judged by a jury of their peers, not the government.
That's not true however. The days of jury nullification are gone, and judges nowadays specifically ask juries to decide based on the law.
It's wrong, but we are a bit beyond the pale in this country.
Is that the government's fault or the people's fault for a lack of knowledge in jury nullification?

If it only affected one other person's body I would agree with you.
Since there are 2 people involved (at least for late stage abortions, I don't agree that a blastocyst or embryo is a person, but at 8 months it sure is) don't they both get a say ?
