So what if you can trace your genetic lineage back to say, German. They had different tribes just like American Indians, genetically different. If you were to dig them up you would find some tribes had roundish skull shapes, some ovate, they were different and would often be at war with each other, just like American Indians, which Germanic tribe were you, Hessian, Saxon, how far back, Goth, Visigoth, Frank, Dane, Gotlander, Vandal? Don't even get started with the Celtish tribes, which if you go back far enough are a germanic branch, or the German tribes are a Celtic branch, depending which holiday's, other than the fourth of July, you wish to celebrate. Gets kind of dizzying doesn't it. Spanish?!?!?!?!?! holy shit!!!!!

That's what makes it interesting. If America is just an idea then it's easy to define who is American. If America is a nationality with a bloodline then it becomes much harder to define, perhaps even impossible. However it gets you thinking much more about what truly makes someone American vs Chinese.


As to the video, can't watch it rn as I'm at work but from the thumbnail she looks yellow (read:Asian) she has the narrow eyes that Asians have. Granted that's just based on the thumbnail.

The child is African just as it would be African if born in any other country in the world. Your place of birth has nothing to do with your national heritage.

I would say legal and cultural. This country was legally formed based on a mutual acceptance of moral standards and practices. Being an American means you choose to integrate into the accepted cultural and legal standards that we all agree on. Consent of the governed. Overtime those standards have been broadened and widened so that what we define as American is different but the core belief remains the same. Liberty and justice FOR ALL

I dont know what Chinese laws are, but in the US if you are born here, you are American by law.

You're OK with defining being American as a law making it just that easy to be "American". If it's that easy for anyone to just become American what's to say they are going to follow our customs and beliefs that we believe make us American?

What if they use their legal status to say "I'm an American" yet they still follow the customs of their true homeland? Would they not be diluting America of Americans?

I gotta get some work done so here's my final post on this subject. America is a melting pot of different races, religions, ideas, and customs, but no matter what we use to define it, Nazism has no place in the land of the free

I don't know what their immigration laws are but if your parents were there legally and became citizens, you'd be Chinese. Your kids would be Chinese as well. It seems foreign to you because there is basically only one race there and they don't allow immigration.

But take the Philippines or Malaysia for example. They do allow immigration. There are Asian looking people there, black, white, and Indian looking people. They are Malaysian or Filipino.

This country throughout its entire history has accepted immigrants that integrated into American society and acted like Americans.

absolutely, true. except for the part about ILLEGAL immigrants. Not one person that I know of is saying "no immigrants allowed" ~~~ but what we are saying, is knock on the front door and ask for permission to come in. It's really that simple.

The other issue with this is, these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are using our resources and money for free. They don't pay into the system, they are bleeding us dry. Look at Californa's budget. AND they get to vote. by that reasoning, we should just let the world vote on who our leaders should be

Imo it's the muddying of bloodlines. I can trace my grandfather's family on my father's side back to Italy they got here in around 1917. My grandmother is much harder because we believe she has been here longer we think she may have come from Austria or Poland. On my mother's side it's even more difficult as we've seen traces in England, Ireland, Germany, Spain...

That muddied heritage is what makes us American. We aren't just from one European nation we have ancestry from many. Those are the people who founded our nation, they are the first Americans.

I don't look down on anyone for not being American but own what you are don't try to claim you are something that you aren't. If you're African be African, if you're Mexican be Mexican, if you're Chinese be Chinese. You can absolutely live in America and love America and support the things America does but you don't just get to be American just as I will never be Chinese.

Uum if you come to America and apply for citizenship, take the test and the oath and you get through all that, YOU ARE MOST DEFINITELY AMERICAN, period.

If your mother is African or Chinese, Irish (the greatest heritage there is BTW) or Italian or Polish you can come to America and work, live, pay taxes and do all that cool stuff, even join the military, but you're still a citizen of whatever country you came from. but if that mother has a child on U.S. soil THAT CHILD IS AMERICAN, it's parents are still of whatever country they came from, but the child is American, it's in the Constitution (like the 14th Amendment I think) The parents can apply for citizenship, jump through the hoops and take the oath, they too will be citizens

NO, it would not make you Chinese because the Chinese don't have a law that says, ***IF BORN HERE YOU ARE A CITIZEN*** again, America is the only country with this law. because we have a law that say if you're born here, you are American.

If @GOPerfect with his beautiful blue eyes deploys to let's say Ireland tomorrow on a business trip and impregnates a girl there, will that kid be not be Irish? Will that kid's kids be Irish or will they not be Irish and always tainted with American?

What if a Chinese dude did the same? Will that kid be Irish or will he always remain Chinese until all Chinese features are bred out of him in 4 generations assuming all partners are 100 percent Irish?

Does your race get bred out of you at some point or will it always be there?

Or does race not matter and citizenship is all that matters when saying one is Irish, African, English, or Chinese?
