I'm considering a 9mm Carbine so I can tell everyone that I told them so. Don't know yet. More than likely a .308. we'll see.
Next year if I do well during bow season, I plan to bring the Camp 9 out at least once.

I’m a one shot, one kill sort of guy.
Since I got the info I wanted, I think a derailment is in order.
9mm. Why wouldn't it be adequate on a deer assuming you are within 50 yards or so and aim for vitals? Many a deer have been taken with .357 Magnum Hard Cast Flat Points. Why Not a 9mm Hard Cast Flat Point that'll go through both sides just like a .357 Magnum will?
But they both go right through both sides with a Hard Cast so what would the extra weight and 200 or so fps more with a .357 make as far as a difference goes?Same caliber more or less but the 357 is a heavier bullet. Also higher velocity.

A 147 gr Hard Cast has over 40 inches of penetration in gel. It took down a grizzly in Alaska. Granted it was a few shots but the penetration was there. We are talking about thin skinned deer here being shot through the side.Aren't you the guy that talks about barriers? Perfect shot no difference hit a shoulder bone or rib there is a big difference. 357 is marginal at best. 9 mm is under powered.
So then what about a hollow point from a 16 inch barrel going at 1500 fps compared to 1100 fps. It's about the same speed as a .357.More kenetic energy produces more shock to the system. It isn’t just about “making holes.” Actually, when I hunt with a .357 and it isn’t often any more (I favor the .44 myself) I use a SJSP
I get that. A rifle is better than a .357 Magnum but it's done every year with a .357 at close range.Speed if fine, it just isn’t the only factor. I’m not saying you can’t kill a deer with A 9mm rifle. I’m saying you have a better advantage killing a deer with a caliber that produces more kenetic energy.
That phrase gets repeated over and over. Have you seen all the deer taken with 9mm handguns online? Were those inhumane ways to kill them. Users report one shot with proper placement. Is it inhumane to use a .357?We are not just talking about potential to kill. We (I am anyway) talking about humanly harvesting an animal.
taste like cacawas my Mosin Deer over kill .... keep arguing humane and inhumane we should all join PETA .. as long as you recover your game .. its humane i say ... i shot , it ran and died , and now its in the freezer ...
can't wait till i bag a yote and cook one up and try it .. O.O ..

Yet it takes deer every year. Anyway, I'm glad we are talking this and not Cuomo BS.Read my previous post. 357 is a marginal caliber.

Not saying you can't hunt with any caliber. Just saying be prepared to recover your prey. If you are in shape and capable of tracking an animal that is wounded go for it. Most will give up after a few hundred yards and let the animal go to waste.
At this point I'd rather talk about BB guns taking rats than another recertification thread.
