you have to take special care of leather ... never seen a Kydex for Army or Navy Colt ... never seen a baseball glove fray apart..
everyone that has one oils it up weekly ....

You could get a kydex holster made for any gun, even a Single Action Army if you wanted. Though I think that would be a bit sacrilegious.
Time and place for everything folks.
For IWB I'd go kydex, for a shoulder rig I'd go leather. OWB I could go either way.
For comps or classes though I couldn't see using anything other than kydex, or the like.

I like the positive click telling you that your pistol is securely in the holster with kydex when reholstering. I also like that IWB it's as easy to reholster as if it was an OWB holster with Kydex.
The kydex OWB holster I got for my class, it has no active retention features but even still frimly held onto my pistol all day. And I was running and rolling, kneeling, laying, crawling and all that.

What are people's opinions on putting polymer guns into leather holsters?
Doesn't that seem a little........ incongruous?
People who try and pass off leather holsters as "good as or better" than a quality kydex holster are the same ones who probably still think a 1911 is the only true handgun (some shit about winning 2 world wars, or John Moses Browning ((but even he realized that the design was outdated 3 of 4 years later and started designing the hi power))
As mentioned before leather still kinda has it's place, bbq guns, cowboy actions or even hiking outdoorsy shit with a revolver or something (shoulder holders / chest rigs)
But honestly you are kidding yourself if you think that a leather holster is better suited for everyday concealed carry or hell even open carry

Yup, they both have their place. I like the thinner profile of kydex as well as the low maintenance and all weather aspect. OK for IWB because it adds almost no bulk and it's sweat resistant. I absolutely love the Blackhawk Serpa because of its excellent retention and belt/paddle/molle mount flexibility. On the other hand, I love a good leather pancake holster for OWB carry - it keeps the grip tucked in way better than most other designs. Desantis mini slides with screw adjustable tension work perfectly for my EDC with my Glock 43, as well as my Ruger SP101. It's also smoother than other designs, both leather and kydex, so the outer garment doesn't hang up and leaves a flatter footprint so it conceals better.
Now I'm old school and wheel guns are ALWAYS gonna ride in leather. Period. Shoulder holsters just gotta be leather. Period.

I love a good leather holster. Most holsters that I use are leather. I have a couple of Kydex (plastic) ones as well. My go to holsters are normally made of leather.
I have never had a Leather holster stretch to the point where they were not usable.
It seems that those that are anti-leather, have never invested good money to buy a good quality, hand made holster.

I love a good kydex holster. Most holsters that I use are kydex. I have a couple of leather (animal skin) ones as well. My go to holsters are normally made of kydex.
I have never had a kydex holster stretch to the point where they were not usable.
It seems that those that are anti-kydex, have never invested good money to buy a good quality, machine made holster.

I've been using Serpa holsters for more than a dozen years and so far no problem. Disclaimer: at 58 years old, I've left all my ninja moves, crawling on my belly like a reptile, rolling on the ground, etc behind me. Not real concerned about dirt in it. Serpas also have a retention screw, you don't need to crank them down for them to "snick" in. Second, I'm not trying to win Big Bear Leatherslap competitions against Chapman and Cooper. My training has been "slow is smooth, smooth is fast." I've had to deploy exactly 5 times out of a Serpa and every time it's worked. After thousands of presentations (both unloaded dry fire and range time live fire) nobody got shot, neither myself or the other guy (although one really deserved it). Booger hook off the bang switch. Third, the one and only time a gun grab occurred, it worked, just long enough for elbow-nose contact, stopping the conflict.
Better choices? Maybe for some, especially if they are not willing to train in depth. For me, it works.

Daytona, for the most part, could be classified as a shit hole. About the only time I go there is Bike Week. Spent 18 years in the next county south of there and it was much better area. Retired now and looking to relax and live.
