Larry Sharpe is not fake but he is a NYC politician with baggage.

1) I have not heard or seen ANY ties between Sharpe and the DNC / Hillary. I can't believe it.

2) Most everything else in the link about Sharpe is true but most points are not secrets

a) securing 50k vote threshold for a fixed NY Libertarian Ballot line at all costs (no secret - his words),

b) being a Bill Weld puppet (no secret - has been the case for years, they like each other and Weld has money and influence),

c) not being an anti SAFE act advocate until this year is true and it is a tactic to help secure 50k votes, even if it came to the cost of handing Cuomo 4 more years. It is about Sharpe and the Libertarian party ... damn anyone else. His early campaign site had no mention of the SAFE act and even touted an "I hate guns but" 2A paper previously linked on NYGUNFORUM by myself and Dayten. Sharpe is NOT anti gun and in fact has some strong pro 2A Libertarian views but there are soft spots compared to most Libertarians in that he does not own a gun, he has in the past preached the "I hate guns but bearing arms is a right" sermon, and stumping this cycle he has not opposed the permitting process like some libertarians, he likes a 90 day waiting window for permitting while some Libertarians believe waiting is an infringement, endorsed background checks during permitting / purchases, did not know about shall issue states in LI appearance before this spring, in a widely shared interview this year unlike most Libertarians he had no issue with permitted EDCs being unloaded and locked while traveling by car), and

3) the concepts of Sharpe being on the 2020 ticket are correct. It is not a secret but that's simple politics and no grand scheme ... except for the Libertarian cause.

Sort of off topic, but he is mentioned in the article. Weld is something else. How can you be in the one hand a libertarian (pro-liberty) and a “fierce advocate of gun control” is beyond me

Bill Weld is not a rabid gun control advocate but this NRA F rated Bloomberg buddy is pretty close. He is a FUDD who owns guns to hunt and believes that civilians should be limited to revolvers and four shot in the tube long guns (no mags). As the RINO Governor of Massechusets he broke his promises, bartered away gun rights and signed gun control legislation (assault weapon feature ban, age restrictions, prison time, etc) as a lying compromising political whore. Bill Weld (who sought the Republican nomination to run for NY Gov in 2006) mentors, supports and advises Larry Sharpe. Seems that there are LINOs too.

I see, I was too young at the time to remember Weld as governor so that history is helpful.

Or is it visa-versa? Most the teachers hate cornholio but probably would never vote Republican, maybe instead some will vote for Larry Sharpe, others will go full commie. The very definition of insanity is repeatedly doing something that never works but expecting a different result. Sharpe in NY's wildcard for those of us wanting real change.

All subjective. Real Libertarian values were Republican values of old.

How about restoring the party to what it once was rather than creating another one? I for one would be happy if the Republican party took on Trump's values of late.

Yes. You're right. I remember all the Republican led, "It's OK to choose to be gay" marches they organized back in the 40's.

And let's not forget Joe McCarthy being the face of the Republican Party when he said, "just because you dont think like us doesn't make you a Communist."

Every party has people with strong views that go away from what the party is supposed to be but as a whole, the Republican Party was supposed to be about individualism and liberty for the sovereign individual along with conservatism for the that individualism and the government that was founded in contrast to socialism and monarchial dictatorships.

It has gone away from that.
