For sure most people will still keep fighting for a few minutes and that’s to be expected. Only Hollywood thinks when you shoot someone in the chest they drop dead immediately.

Anyone who's ever hunted a deer knows otherwise.

I really think that in a defensive situation onw should focus on getting ANY kind of solid hit. Center of mass and pull the trigger till the attacker ceases their assault. A solid shot to the pelvis would have a good probability of halting an attacker but a grounded attacker can still be a threat particularly if armed with a firearm. I don't think it's realistic to think that most of us with have the time, precision and presence of mind to target specific areas under high stress. I also wonder if common defensive calibers even have the energy needed to outright shatter a bone the size of the pelvis. Hot .357 Magnums or 10mm Auto might be able to but short of those I doubt it.
