I hate the idea of sacrificing hostages but if Israel is dead set committed to eradicating Hamas it's going to be the price of doing business.
If Israel forsakes the hostages they better make it count.

If I recall, Israeli terrorist interdiction team strategy in the 1970s and 1980s was to approach situations by considering hostages "already dead." The special forces teams were to eliminate the terrorists so that they could no longer operate and then to rescue as many hostages as possible.
I could, of course, be recalling this completely incorrectly based on bad information that I heard decades ago.
Anyone with real operative knowledge, please correct me as needed. Thanks.

Something to consider. Gaza has more than 2,000,000 residents and occupies 141 square miles. It is one of the most densely populated places on Earth. Kill them all as some have advocated sounds like a holocaust. If the IDF goes in, they will have to fight house by house. Their losses will likely prove staggering. Larry Johnson has a worthwhile piece on what the IDF wil face likening it to the battle of Iwo Jima that took a month to subdue the Japanese. He reckons it would take at least 4 months of that level of fierce fighting in Gaza, probably more. That’s assuming no other parties get involved like hezbolla. Will not be a cake walk.

I hate to break it to some here, but much, probably most, of the world’s population is not that fond of Israel, to the extent they care at all.
Cutting off food and water to something like 800,000 children and having their deaths from thirst and starvation live streamed over the course of weeks is not going to be a win. At best, it will be a short lived pyrrhic victory that unites the entire BRICS and beyond in supporting a coalition of nations from Turkey to Jordan to Syria to Saudi Arabia from doing a “humanitarian intervention ” ( i.e. a war that will be justified under international law to prevent a genocide). Maybe even the UN invades, if Biden doesn’t exercise a US veto.
I guess Israel can try to cut internet, but I doubt Elon Musk is going to cut Starlink.
There is not going to be four weeks in which to carry out Israeli operations if the water and food remain cut. I give it two weeks, at best, before images of dead and dying children win the world’s unification. And that’s assuming no intervening escalations, which seems unlikely.
Whether it’s Erdogan or MBS, within 2 weeks it’s going to be a choice between facing internal revolution of angry millions or take on Isreal.
Just a read out of the situation.

Once the area is completely sterile, then there is nothing to "intervene" in.
If the "international community" wants to come in to count the bodies when it's all over, they can have at it.
But it would take them months to decide who gets to speak at the meeting to put together the coalition, so Isreal has plenty of time.

For those who have not worked with Israeli special operations, it may be minor solice but even as of yesterday numerous hostages were freed (although many are still held) and just under two thousand of Hamas Military men's bodies are rotting as their souls burn in hell. They are doing their job, it is not a PR campaign, and we should care less that the press is isolated from their efforts.
