There were reports that the iron dome at some point yesterday was effectively compromised

They don't have an unlimited amount of anti-rocket missiles. It takes time to resupply reload and rearm the launchers. They Israeli air defenses were saturated and depleted. Now you have to think that their stockpiles are pretty low and who knows how many they have in reserve and how long the lead time is to get new ones.
