It's a heavy duty fillet knife (you probably could fillet dragons with this one, small dragons anyhow). It has a 440C stainless steel blade, green Micarta handle and is 13" overall with a blade length of 8". A Kevin Johnson creation. Kevin Johnson was formerly of DNZ Trading Company but seemingly is now using the company name of Kuzach Knives LLC (KUZACH Knives LLC by KuzachKnivesLLC) and a DKZ logo now instead of DNZ. I must say, I got an excellent price on it, much lower than the current sale price of $106.25. makes me a happy camper or fisherman or butcher of dragons.

Well, I have been attending Hessney Auction Co. gun auctions since 2012. Back then, those first couple of auctions were therapy right after surviving my battle with stage 4 throat cancer. From 2012 through 2015, it was one or two auctions a year that I went to. Last year I did 5 of them. This year I bid at 7 of them. They have a lot of very desirable pieces up for bids during the regular Rod & Gun auctions and at their Early Gun & Military auctions and of course some junk too. They had several parts guns yesterday along with all of the good stuff. They also had knives, ammo, accessories (like scopes), reloading equipment, hunting clothes & gear and so on.

This coming January, they are holding an auction billed as an Special Antique and Military gun Auction. Everything being auctioned at that one supposedly will be from the estate of one man; that auction includes over 300 firearms from the Revolutionary War through WWII, swords & other edged weapons and ammo. I am hoping to make it there then to pick up a pistol on which I had the high bid yesterday and for that auction. Even if I did not have that pistol there waiting for me and the proper paperwork, I would go if the weather allows because I am a gun auction junkie enjoy these auctions.

Should have gone anyway as some items sold for less than I would have paid.

Some people are out and out idiots when bidding; it has happened at every auction I have attended so far. Just one example was a box of 500 rounds of CCI blazer, that I think was bulk pack because it was not the traditional brick shape. It sold for $35 or more. Add to that either 10% (for cash or NYS check) or 13% (paying by credit card) and it was way too much considering this stuff is back in stores for $29.99 a brick. Then there was 9mm ammo selling for way too high also. Am example of 9mm ammo selling way over the going price was a lot of two boxes of Remington UMC 115 grain FMC ammo, they went for $30 for the lot of $15.00 each. Add to that either 10% or 13% buyers premium and they went for either $16.50 or $16.95 per box. That is way over the current selling price of around $10 per box for tat particular ammo. Not only do folks not check prices ahead of time, they seem to forget they have to add the buyer's premium to their winning bids. On the other hand, I picked up a box of Barnes 454 Casull 250 grain HP ammo for $10 plus $1.30 buyer's premium (forgot my checkbook - shame on me or would have only been a$1.0 buyer's premium). That stuff retails for about $35 per box. Not a bad deal. No gun for it but may come in handy for a trade or a sale at $20.

Another knife I picked up at the auction, this one for $3 (it was part of a lot of four knives for which I paid $12.00 for the lot). I was taking a chance on it and made out well. It is a Boker Tree Brand knife, and is marked G. Schrade's Hunting & Fishing Knife on the handle along with game & fish images. I am not sure of the date of manufacture but have heard it was the1940s. This knife is currently selling for around $25 or more, in similar condition, on Ebay.

Do they add sales tax on top of buyer's premiums?

Of course they do. The tax is .075 on top of your bid plus the buyer's premium.

That's it, Glenn -- you just sold me on going to one of their auctions. Nice finds, nice prices. Hessney's has sold stuff for me before, - and I made out well, - now I'm gonna have to go to one.

The one in January promises to be different than most of their regular Rod & Gun auctions because it is all stuff from one estate (at least all the guns will be from one estate as I understand it). The online catalogue will probably only be available, in its entirety, a couple of days before the auction; although, a partial catalogue is often available a week or more ahead of time. Going over it gives you a chance to see what they have and to check values before auction day. While I have made a few bids online (I shy away from online bidding now), I don't recommend bidding online especially for any guns unless it says unfired in box (they essentially mean new when they put that in the description). The pics they show of the guns are not usually of high enough quality to judge the piece to determine your bid.
