Itialian 6.5 carcano

I picked up a all original 6.5 Itailian carbine yesterday for only $125. It came with a box of Norma bullets and three clips.

I want to pick up a bayonet and an original sling for it.

Once I get caught up I will pick up the 7.35 itialian carbine to go with this one,

I bought a set OF RCBS 6.5 dies. I meet to see if I have a the shell holders for it. I use lee shell holders and the Lee auto primer.

I need to find projectiles and loading data.

Congratulations. I have three 6.5 Carcano's. My first was a model 38 that I paid $75 for many years ago and someone already hacked up the stock. I added a rosewood tip and moved the bolt handle to the rear using a mig welder & spare bolt. Also added an adjustable rear sight from a Thompson Center muzzle loader.
Second was a longer barreled 91/41 with the stock crudely cut so I sanded & refinished it. The third is a Cavalry Carbine. Carcano's are sighted for about 300yds so I added solder to the sight posts and filed for profile & correct height for a 100yd zero.

Original Carcano 6.5 bullets are about .2665. Norma uses the standard .264 diameter bullets so depending on your bore diameter, it may or may not be accurate. PRVI ammo uses .263 bullets so almost everybody has problems with that ammo.
Carcano's use a gain twist rifling which starts out slow and the twist increases as nears the muzzle.

Hornady Carcano ammo also uses .264 bullets but manufacturer .2665 bullets for reloading. They used to be advertised as .268 but now they call it .267. HORNADY 6.5MM(.267)160gr RNSP BULLET ROUND-NOSE 100/BX - Graf & Sons

I use H414- Win 760 powder which happens to be the same powder but one is re-packaged. If you're going to use the correct diameter bullets, it's recommended that you use magnum primers.
If you choose to get a 7.35, I think Hornady's the only one that makes the bullets which are .300 7.35mm (.300) - Rifle Bullets - Metallic Reloading - Graf & Sons

Nice set of rifles you have there, back in the 80s I had about six carcanos, 6.5 and 7.35.
Like a fool I sold them.

Thank you for the loading information, I need to pick up so ore brass and bullets. I will be looking for the 7.35 dies, I can pick up a 7.35 for $200 plus Shipping. I have to send in my money for my C&R permit..

I have some 6.5 ammo that I bought years ago and I have some clips as well.

Where is a good place to buy carcano brass?
It is going to be fun shooting one of these again.

The 6.5 brass bus a little pricey, but the 7.35 brass and 7.35 dies are at a reasonable. Price.

I belong to the Washington Arms Collector club, they have a monthly club news, it's a decent size publication with about five pages of "WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE" I wll post a wanted ad in it for brass, clips, dies, bayonets and sling and see what's available locally.
Do you know if the clips are the same for the 6.5 and the 7.35?
I will be going out shooting this week with my grandson. It is going to be fun shooting this 6.5 and the Remington 700 in 22-250 That I just picked up.
I also bought a new Smith 642 just to have as an extra, the one I have is seven years old. I have carried it in my right front pants pocket every day since.

I have a 7.35 Finnish Carcano, they have an interesting history. It came with what I would consider cheap old reloads, I shot it a couple times and decided to stop so I wouldn't damage the action trying to extract the brass. I think it should be fine with quality brass.

Highland looks as though your carcano has been cut down. at least the stock anyway what is the date on the barrel the rear sight looks like a later maybe WW2 version. have a couple that I shoot with some regularity they are fun
