Do you need to be a member? If not can you only be there for competitions? What kind of rifles can you use? That sort of thing. What are the rules basically. That place is about 80 miles directly north of me. If I ever got that John Hancock PRS rifle, that place seems like it would be a good place to take it to stretch its legs.

I honestly cant be that helpful. I will try to talk to someone when I get there to answer your questions, which are the same as mine. I dont know if they have any caliber restrictions but I get the feeling they're all metal silhouettes so I'm guessing .50 cal is frowned upon unless they have a special area for those. I'm planning bringing on my 6 creed and 300 win mag. Guess I have to just go and figure it out.
Membership is required and an NRA member card is required to apply. One of my local club members took care of everything for me and I haven't even met him....or gotten a chance to pay him. I guess that's the kind of guy he is.

Y'know, I overlooked the NRA membership card thing. Forget it. I'm with the GOA now, NRA can fuck off. And it looks like they are well on they way to doing just that.
Thats a beautiful range,,,,would love to have something like that close to me. Then I would finally become a member of a club. Clubs around here are just about all a hundred yards. I know 2 of them that are 200 but one is seriously expensive (Brooks) and the other one I have to look into.

Well, it was a hell of a drive....but I guess it could've been worse. Beautiful morning and the hills of the southern tier are pretty spectacular.
Got there around 8:30 and had to take a little detour as a road closure wasnt noted in my truck or Google GPS.
Pulling into the parking lot after weaving through quite a bit of woods was intimidating. Not only is it a long distance but the topography drops away from the guesstimate 30 benches and then rises up from a valley.
I used my rangefinder since they didn't post the distances of the silhouettes. Shortest I started with was around 330 and my scope was set for 250 so it was pretty much dead on. Got tired of shooting Rams at 550 so went out to the 850-1000 yard targets.
Just used a vertical holdover to get a feel as there was virtually no wind. At 1000 I was just about losing targets at the bottom of my scope. I didn't want to go twisting turrets but decided to dial up close to 120 where my Viper maxed out. Realized that the Strelok app was way off and 70 was about right.
Once I was dialed in, I don't want to sound smug but it was almost effortless. Dropping steel coyotes at 1K wasn't too hard and I would take 1 in 2-3 shots average. I was only missing by a couple inches left or right and the dirt really showed your splash perfectly.
Place was virtually empty. 3 guys came 5 minutes after me. 3 more showed up and that was pretty much it for the day. I was there for 6 hours and could've stayed until dark.
Being new to long range, and this distance in particular, I can only speak to what I know. The RPR in 6 Creed is impressive. I was using a bipod and simple sandbag and the shot spreads were not at all large. If I focused a little more and played the light breeze a bit, I suspect hit rates may have climbed to 80-85%.
I spent the bulk of 175 rounds at 1000 as anything much shorter was almost a waste of time. There were some groundhog targets that were smaller at 850 but 600 or less was almost a guaranteed hit. I can't wait to get back there.

So is it all steel plates? No paper, so basically no reason to walk or drive out there? If thats the case,,,I like that. Any idea why the Strelok App was way off? Did it have anything to do with your inputted data or dont know?
By the way my woodchuck hunting I texted you about was the worse time Ive ever been out there. We only saw 5, which is about 20 to 30 less than we normally see. I shot at one 4 times at roughly 200yds with the 17hmr and missed every time, no info for scope at that distance, haven't set it up. Farmer shot at 2 of them, 1 at 75, 1 at 150,,,both misses. Total shit show.

Silhouette range is all metal. When you knock em down you go and set em up. Theres actually quite a few. I passed multiple other ranges that you could shoot paper if you wanted to.

The above, plus NRA membership for this club to me is dirt cheap. This would be a great place to learn and practice on how to use your scope properly.

This is stupid cheap for the facilities you're using. I'd be happy to pay double that. I'm a temporary member assuming I'd get "voted in" at their next general meeting. One of my club members here took care of all this for me.
