Just got a Ruger EC9s, any thoughts?

I was gifted a brand new Ruger EC9s. I havent shot any rounds thru it yet, and honestly dont know much about them. I think it looks cool, nice compact fit, and seems solid enough. Mine is black and that dark tan/coyote color. It only came with 1 seven rd magazine, which was a bit disappointing. I have briefly looked at more mags, and they seem a bit pricey too. I also see there is an extended round mag that holds 9, but i also heard the springs are so tuff in them that u cant load the 8th or 9th round anyway, or at least not easily. Kinda defeats the purpose then.

Anyway, this is my new toy. I have no idea when i will have a chance to run some rounds thru it, but hopefully soon. Was wondering if anyone here has one, and what they think of it. Or if there is an quirks or issues, and that kinda stuff.

I can’t speak for this gun directly but I have not been overly impressed with any of my rugers. The finish on my LCPII was very soft and I had to send it out for nitride treatment and it’s been fine since. My SR22 had to be completely rebuilt and I think the only thing that came back from the original gun was the frame.

I could be wrong but I don't think people do much to Ruger pistols. For a gun of that type (CCW) I don't think you ought to do much. Maybe throw on a pair of night sights and call it a day.
EDIT- Nevermind, I see that the EC9's sights are milled into the slide itself.
I don't think you are going to find all that much in the way of aftermarket upgrades for the EC9, not that kind of gun. Take the money you would spend on.parts and spend it on ammo instead. I've got a Glock 19 a Walther PPQ and an S&W Shield and you know what? The only thing I have done to any of em is put night sights on and that's all I'm ever gonna do to em.

True, there is only so much to do with a little s&%t like this. I was thinking along the lines of if there was maybe an upgrade you should almost always do, like spring or trigger, since factory might be bad from jump. I know its apples and oranges, but like any Ruger 10/22 should almost always do a trigger upgrade, at a minimum. I am fine with leaving it stock, or well enough alone though, especially when not warranted though.

You are correct, the sights on the EC9 are indeed not removable or adjustable. From the little i know, i think that is the only difference between the EC9 and the LC9. The LC9 does have an adjustable sight, but it is also $100 more, and that is the only difference between the 2. I have a Walther PPQ as well, and i did the night sights and added a laser lol. I was considering getting a glock 19, i know its like the staple of 9mm handguns, but i cannot stand glock triggers. My wife has a glock 42 .380, and it has turned me off to glocks as a whole, cause of that trigger.

I have the LC9s Pro (no safety and better sights) i like it a lot because its got a good trigger. Only mod is the talon grip sticker, gets a little squirrelly otherwise.
Its a great point shooter and is comfortable to carry

I had an lc9s pro. It was a great, reliable little shooter. As said above, the grip is thin, so I added a hogue handall Jr to it. The ec9s is just a cheaper version.

My LcpII shoots reliably and my sr22 is good now. As mentioned above they do have good customer service however they never responded to my email about getting my gun refinished so I just took matters into my own hands. I was disappointed by that. Also my sons 10/22 had some feeding issues too. That worked itself out after a few hundred to 1,000 rounds.
IMO the lroduct I buy should be right out of the box and it wasn’t after three of their products in my case so I’m out with ruger. They have a few guns I like but I’m not bothering.

So, i took the ec9 out over the weekend. I shot about 100 rounds through it. No issues at all, so far. I enjoyed shooting it a lot, and so did my wife. I had it sighted in fairly quickly, and was dead on from that point on. I like it a lot, nice trigger pull, and all in a small package.

The only issue was not with the gun, but with the magazine. I only have one mag, for now, and its the 7 rounder. Well, i could only get 6 rounds in it. No matter how i tried, that 7th round did not want to fit in there. I am probably going to leave the mag loaded for a while, so i can compress the spring a bit. Hopefully that will get it loosened up enough to fit number 7 in.

If the EC9 mags are anything like the Shield mags they'll loosen up with use. All the Shield mags I've handled were a real bear to get that last round in when new but after a dozen or so cycles they eased right up.

If you want to break the magazine's spring in, you'll be waiting a long time just leaving it compressed. Better to work it by loading/unloading it repeatedly or otherwise pushing down on the follower repeatedly. Or maybe get a mag loader for it.

I own an EC9S and love it. The only upgrades I did to it were to paint the front sight orange and rear sight white with paint pens from Walmart. This tightened up my groups a lot. Also, I have some of the Ruger 9 round magazines and they have worked flawlessly. I use these for the most part, since I have large hands. Good luck and enjoy shooting yours.
