Just received my permit from Broome. Time to shop..

Took just about 3 months for the entire process but I finally received my permit today in the mail. Now it's time to go shopping. Think I have it narrowed down to these two.

Sig Sauer P320 X Legion or the Walther PPQ Q5
Just for target shooting and home defense.

Any pros or cons for either one, being new to firearms.

Also going to be looking into some training courses here local for some extra needed training.

I have the X5 Legion.
Great gun but keep in mind that at almost 44 ounces unloaded, its very heavy for a carry gun. It is a brick.

I would suggest the Q5.. I shot a x5 legion, it was nice felt good in the hand but idk just meh to me.

Havent shot the PPQ but the reviews it has are awesome, especially now that C&H is offering optics plates with BUIS for the optics ready models

If you're not carrying and you're new to shooting I would go with what feels best in the hand and whichever weighs more (I have to imagine that's the SIG) unless its unwieldy heavy, in that order.

I have not. I know my LGS said he would have to order both. So I'm waiting to hear back from him now to see how that works. Don't want him to be stuck with one.

Oh not at all especially if you get a good quality belt and holster

I will point out that the sig red dot mounting option (if and when you decide to head down that road, especially if you want this to be a HD gun) is absolutely terrible, but the walther has a much better design there especially when in conjunction to the soon to be released plates from C&H


Other thing to consider especially for a range gun, magazine cost and availability thr x5 legion doesn't use normal p320 mags and has it's own magazine that's just a fraction of a hair difference in size iirc

The Q5 has an amazing trigger. Smoothest I've ever felt, especially on a striker fried gun. I would highly recommend it.

No, its not even too heavy to carry for many people. I carry a Gp100 or a Glock 20, both heavy guns.
But a majority of people think 44 ounces is too heavy.
The weight is nice at the range.

Congrats, get what ever you like to start with, then when you get your carry look at a Glock 19.

Then look for a training class from @OnSight Firearms Training in your area, or travel. You will learn more in one class than you can learn on your own.

Then yes if you are thinking of adding a dot then the best option of the two is the PPQ.

Sig is only cut for a sig romeo (they are trash and not worth the money) and the Delta Point Pro which is ok but not the best option.

Along with that the way it mounts is not quality like other options

Spoke with our LGS and he has neither. He didn't really sound interested in bringing in both for me to handle . Really not looking to drop some coin on either pistol without at least handling it.

Try hoping the boarder to PA, I believe scranton has a few gun shops atleast one big one I think. See if any of them have any in stock

Funny part about this is being I have never shot a pistol I wouldn't really know how great the trigger really is . But the videos and reviews look great on that Q5. as well as the budget.

But you can go to PA (they will let you touch guns even if you dont have a PA LTCF (license to carry firearm) make a day trip of it and bring an extra $15-20 (cant remember the cost) and get your out of state PA license while your at it. There is another thread that mentions some PA counties that are super good to get it in... legit walk in and within 15 min have your PA license

Congratulations. 3 months. Not bad. I first got my permit in Broome County in 1984. Took 11 months. The clerk at the time was an anti-gunner. She would just put applications in her desk drawer until they got in her way and then would send a batch to wherever they went.

You cannot receive the weapon. Have it sent to your local FFL, if you want to go that way. You're probably better off just checking it out then having your FFL order it for you (save transfer fee) or buy it online (save sales tax) than buy out of state and have it shipped to your FFL.

I've only fondled regular PPQs not the Q5 and even the feel and ergonomics on the base PPQ was great. Felt awesome in hand.

Try hoping the boarder to PA, I believe scranton has a few gun shops atleast one big one I think. See if any of them have any in stock

We run many classes at Roll Call in Scranton, you can rent guns there to demo.

Try on both guns. See which one fits and feels the best.

Shoot well and shoot often.

Find a good and reputable person/group to train with.

Well been awhile but finally have an appointment at the LGS tomorrow. Looking like for right now its come down to the P320 Legion or a
HK VP9. Couldn't justify the Q5 cost as my first pistol with everything else I'll need. Safe, holster, ammo.. lots of ammo and some training classes.

I'm probably 90% sure it will be the Legion but have some questions. Trying to be somewhat educated before going in the LGS. First how can I tell if this particular pistol model will have the correct trigger or the older version that needs upgrading for free from Sig? Second been reading Sig is sending less magazines for the pistol because of demand? Wondering if that's true? Thanks for any help...
