Interesting to me, Snappo, that you find Cruz or Rubio to be good choices for president, given their religious backgrounds. Rubio, more than Cruz, but still, if you think the religious right aren't very intelligent, why would you want one as leader of the country?

It's a problem, to be sure. I want fiscally conservative and constitutional values. The GOP base seems more conservative. I think religion is a cancer and has no place in the 21st century. It worked well when cavemen needed a way to explain thunder. Science is such that there is no more reason to invent omnipotent and omniscient beings as an explanation for observation. In truth, I align more with the Libertarian Party; but let's be honest - that party is about as viable as tits on a bull. So my only choice is GOP; and within GOP I feel Cruz and Rubio have a fiscally responsible message, are articulate and intelligent, and would show respect for the office they were seeking.

We need two more Scalia clones with good genes so they live long lives, and in their late 30s / early 40's. Time to stack the deck for 40 years.

The Protestant Church position is also of infallibility and inerrancy. I gave you the link to their position (Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy). The leaders of the Protestant movement signed it. Protestantism started with Martin Luther when he wrote Disputatio pro declaratione virtutis indulgentiarum in 1517. Both Luther and Calvin (founders of Prostistantism) spoke about biblical inerrancy, you know. It's not something secret - they were very loud in their assertions.

I do not see how one can be Christian and yet somehow believe the Bible is errant and fallible. Because if that's the case, then the existence of Christ is possibly fictitious and that even if he existed his message is a man-made interpretation by unknown authors of the period. As such, to be Christian one must hold that Bible to be free of error and written by the Holy Spirit.

The bible is hardly the only literary account of Christ.

It wasn't even a single document until 300 years *after* he lived.

If nobody canonized any documents and no bible was ever created; present day man would not know these fables. The whole reason there is Christianity today is because of this canonized apocrypha. Nobody even wrote about Christ until decades after his death; and the main authors never even met the guy. It's just a set of stories. But your assertion that the bible is not the reason you have Christianity today is absolutely ludicrous. No apocrypha = no story = no invisible sky-daddy listening to the prayers inside the brains of 8 billion humans 24x7x365.

And with regard to denying his existence - odds are he never existed even at merely the historical level; not even considering these man-gods and miracles. Nobody that was alive at the time wrote about him. Not even one single sentence in any Dead Sea Scrolls and in the Nag Hamadi scrolls only the stories of Thomas mentions him (and I believe says Jesus was a twin). All third party narratives long after he died - that's what NT is. Josephus wrote about him after he was dead and he never met the guy. Tacitus wrote a little blurb about Christ 100 years after Jesus died. Mathew, Mark, Luke, John - they were NOT the actual authors of the gospels and the authors never met Jesus. Saul of Tarsus (Paul) even declares that he altered the synoptic texts because Jesus (whom he says he never met) came to him as a ghost after death and told him how to re-write the major gospels / testaments. Jesus brother James the Just never wrote about him.

99% of Christians don't know much about their own religion. They wouldn't be much fun. They'd all just pray for your soul and anything intellectual that you say to them would go right over their heads. I don't think SCOTUS decisions can be relied on to fix our issues in NY. The 2nd circuit obviously ignores Heller so what does that leave us with?
It would take a governor and legislature willing to repeal safe and sullivan to make a difference. And that...won't happen.

So in short, no hope. In NY anyways.

Reversals happen. It was illegal to drink booze due to the 18th Amendment, but then the 21st Amendment fixed that conundrum. Kennedy is so old at this point that any breath could be his last and it would just be characterized as death by natural causes.
