If you were stopped by police, they'd likely describe it under their legal authority as a "dangerous knife" because it's "scary looking" and designed for combat/self defense. They'd probably ask you why you're carrying such a knife and what your intentions are with it and hope you say the wrong thing to set you up for a nice arrest. There's no guarantee with carrying any knife for that matter with that interpretation, which is why most people buy and carry whatever the fuck they want.

It depends on the situation of course, but the potential is there, and understanding the bigger picture instead of a simple yes and no is more important. If you get caught with an illegal knife, you should know what to expect and therefore you should know what to expect with a legal knife too.

I disagree. I carried one for a while as edc. I found it to be really useful. The curve makes for some interesting uses.

There are no blade length restrictions in upstate NY. Automatics are legal to posses if you're fishing or hunting.

And for its use? It's great at opening boxes and letters (at work)!

Karambit is OK if you trained with it, has some advantages (slicing) over a straight blade, strictly combat speaking of course and relative to the application.

They are also used in Europe. I remember my grandfather cutting grasses for his farm animals wherever he could. I have a few of his “farming implements”. Just DO NOT carry them in NYC.
