The Archangel Foregrip is held on with a small plastic nub:It appears that their client was shooting a Kel-Tec KSG equipped with a ProMag “Archangel” polymer forward grip when tragedy occurred.
I would say, based on the pictures, that the first one was bad parts combined with going crazy with the pump. The second looks like a particularly heavy grip/light combo to be hanging off of a plastic rail that is attached to a pump. Regardless, I agree that an AFG or the like would be a better choice. As for the bottom rails, I feel although substatial enough, I dont think a vertical grip is the best solution. Whether any broken rails are from normal use ....I highly doubt it. Probably bad installs, cheap parts or some guy trying to show off. Lower profile forward grips/hand stops are out there which put less strain on the rail than the vertical, keeps 2 hands on the gun, and maintain more or a streamlined firearm.
Wouldn't your hand be more likely to slip off without something to hang onto?
Well I just wonder cause the forend of the KSG looks really wide and kinda slick, unlike the the only one my mossy which I can really clamp down on. Is this not the case?Has your hand ever slipped off a pump gun before?
You have more feel holding on the regular forend...you also use less force.
I would assume you haven't held one yet. AFG is insurance but not required. Being concious of firearms safety and the compact nature of the ksg is all you really need.So with the angle grips you are relying on the little nub up front to keep your hand in place? Seems dicey to me. A semi auto KSG would be kick ass!
My point is that it seems to me that grip would provide good traction and mechanical leverage when working the action to the rear, but not back forward.I would assume you haven't held one yet. mechanical leverage .
Problem with me is I didn't need it until I saw it in person picking up another gun from my ffl. It's a really cool gun and something I would eventually like to have but... So many other guns I NEED first.
Cant say since it is a new design and doesnt have the history yet. I can tell you, on my first outing it shot slugs and 00buck without falling apart or me losing my hand. It's a niche gun and a fun gun. Am I looking to use it for a skeet shoot, No!....but neither will I be going to a 26"vented barrel o/u for H/D.I'd like to try a KSG sometime. Do you all suppose a KSG can take the the high, extreme even, levels of abuse that my 590A1 has? While I love my Mossy, and it has served me well for years it is a big and awkward ol beast.
Exactly. And this is what helps to break them.
Obviously, get a good grip (sloted screw compression style as noted above) upgrade the rail. Maybe put the grip a bit farther back...
And just be aware on what you are doing and all should be fine.
