There might be in NYC. I've heard about it (fire marshall opinion or something, who knows, it could be BS), but people in NYC are not Americans anymore, so they don't really count. For the rest of us in NY state there is no limit whatsoever. Realize of course if you've ever on the news and have your weapons taken for any reason and you have more than 50 rounds or so, it will be a weapons cache. NYC limit is 200 rounds. Anywhere else there's no limit. Regardless of where you are, nobody will (or should) know how much you have, so don't worry about it.

I think... depending on where one lives I would do some local research just to be sure. If memory serves Rochester has additional magazine size restrictions on top of what SAFE act mandates, e.g.

If you live in NYC- 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island) there is a FDNY fire code- ammo limit of 200 rounds on your premises.
"Ammunition You may not possess more than a total of 200 rounds of ammunition in your premises. Not 200 rounds of a certain caliber, not 200 rounds for each gun. Your TOTAL round count for ALL ammunition in your premises may not exceed 200 rounds. This is true for those with carry permits as well as premise permits. This is a NY Fire Department regulation. "

I'm just curious here. So if by chance one gets caught with more than 200 rounds in the city, would that just be a citation from the fire dept? Or is it a felony charged by police. Not my circus as I don't live in the city but just thinking out loud.

NYC has different rules. NYC require a firearm license for long guns (rifle/shotgun) and handguns.
NYC applicants are given a handbook of rules. break the rules and NYPD can/will revoke your license/s.

I would reload then if in NYC .. 20 lbs of powder , 10000 bullets , 10000 primers .. then only load up 200 rounds ( as needed ) ..FUAC
When I have 200 rounds of ammunition I consider myself to be out of ammunition.
I don't think I would be satisfied with any amount less than a pole barn stacked to the rafters with pallets of ammo.

And the proof that it's not about stopping crime, is that criminals don't use much.
