I bought a "new" gun, but it looks pretty dirty. I got a great deal and mail ordered it. I did t really want to hassle around with shipping it back. I see wear by the firing pin, brass on the feed ramp, wear on the riffling, brass on the mag, and brass and powder in and around the chamber. So is it used or is it just normal test firing from ruger. It's a ruger lcpII

No wear at all on the outside of the gun. The finish is perfect. The feed ramp in person looks like brass rubbed onto it not rust. Also some brass on the lip of the barrel below the feed ramp.

I'm not an expert on such matters so I just really don't know, but would a factory test fire foul the rifling that bad?
In the end though, if you got a really good deal on it and if its in otherwise top mechanical condition does it really matter if its used or not?

If you guys thought it was used I was going to try to get a mag or two out of them. If it's normal it's normal. I'd just be kind of pissed if someone sold me a used gun as new. I paid $200 for it so I think that's pretty good

Try to weasel the extra mags anyway.
@ $200 I don't think you should sweat it overmuch either way.

I'm not looking to screw anyone. I know that's not what you were saying to do, but I'm not looking for something for nothing. The FFL said it looked pretty standard for Ruger, but I got the impression he didn't want to hassle with sending it back. If it's not shot more than a few rounds it's not worth the hassle with Palmetto State Armory.

Yes I agree. I stripped it and cleaned it and the brass on the feed ramp did not come off nor did the wear by the firing pin. I have about 600 rounds through 2 other guns and there is not that much wear on those 2 guns. Also the extractor looks off to me. It's cocked in the frame and it didn't seem to cycle rounds good. I didn't shoot the gun, but tried to manually feed and eject rounds.

Give Ruger a call in the morning. You might have gotten the 1 in 100 that got 10 mags test fired through it instead of 1 or 2.

For what it's worth, any gun I've bought new had powder residue and brass skid marks in it. I also can't see Palmetto trying to pull a fast one by selling a used gun as new.

I wouldn't sweat it.

That’s ridicules you have been in enough gun shops to know what factory new pistols look like. That has a lot of rounds through it.

This is my 4 th new pistol and I have never thought I received a used one. I even bought a new ruger not too long ago. I've also looked at other LCPII, the sr9c and the mark IV and never thought they were used. Even if they did fore 10 mags through it would they not touch up the slide? It's worse than it looks in the pictures by the way.

I did contact ruger and ask if the serial number was ever registered before and they could tell me nothing. They said they ship to a distributor and that they have no way of tracking it after it leaves their factory. I will email them pictures today to see if they would allow something like that to leave their factory. My guess is no, but who knows.

My father in law bought a new pistol and he received it in and it was used. Turned out the guy at the other store liked the pistol and took it for a few test runs on the range. Palmetto has stores with ranges on them. Who knows maybe it was rented out or an employee shot it on the range.

Some shops have a funny way of describing what is "new"...

New doesn't mean never fired, it could mean never "sold", ie, new! It could mean never fired by a display model that's been cycled and dry fired 5,000X and as it was never sold, is "new", etc., NIB is usually unfired, unhandled and in original packaging! But of course that is speculative as well...

For $200 it's not a big loss, but I would've passed and sent it back if there was any evidence of use as yours displays. Sometimes, a deal that is too good to be true, is (too good to be true)! Buying something sight unseen is always a risk.

Exactly right here. ^^ Hell, I’ve purchased used guns that didn’t look as bad as yours. I’d be sending that right back to PSA in a heart beat along with all of your time stamped photos as proof that you haven’t even shot it yet.

Thanks boys. I emailed them today and I'll see what they say. I thought it looked used.

I agree for $200 I can't really go wrong, but New is new and used is used.

I think I will try to get a few bucks off or two mags out of them.

I think that's fair. I honestly think it was used on their range. The brass in the chamber and feed ramp looks worse in person.
