Even though you’re used to going with that amount of weight, running a lighter setup is always going to increase mobility and decrease exhaustion. I’m not saying you should get Lvl IV plates, just wondering what your thought process is with choosing it over III+? Prices is always a large factor and IV’s that are relatively light usually run more than III+ that are on the lighter side of things. I can tell you that plenty teams run III+ plates. I’m also discouraging IV’s either because having more protection is always better than less but I wouldn’t purposely choose IV’s over a set of III+‘s just because you’re just ok with the IV’s being heavy’ish. Some brands to check out are Velocity Systems, Tencate, LTC, Highcom, Paraclete/Point Blank, RMA, AT Armor, Avon/Ceradyne. Looking into these plates is more work than usual since you really have to do your own research since they aren’t just popping up all over social media or “gun-tubers” reviewing them.Level IV. It doesn't have to be super light weight. I walk daily either with the 30 or 45lb plate on an incline, so I'm used to regularly holding that amount of weight on my body + gear. Figure plates will run me about 10-15 lbs, water 5-10, ammo probably another 5 with the mags, maybe slightly more. that still gives me 15 lbs in misc gear like helmet, food, change of clothes for a lightweight setup that is sustainable.
Perfect timing from the talking balaclava.
No offense but I called this really bad defense of steel plates way in advance lol.

Yeah my man, I was just laughing a little bit because I had literally called it almost two hours beforehand lol…it was perfect. HahaI'm not mad at all. Not in the least.
I realize there are far better options than steel. (pretty much everything).
I'm just trying to be fair. Steel plates with frag lock coating in ideal conditions taking a mostly"straight on hit" as opposed to an angle should work and contain the fragmentation.
Steel plates without the full coating are such a bad idea under almost any condition that IMO you would be better off not wearing them and using less weight and increased Mobility.
Im not advocating for steel plates. I haven't suggested anyone I know to buy steel plates in years now since I'm better educated than I was before and objectively realize the steel plates are the worst option available.
You can call it whatever you want. Reality is, its spray on truck bed linner
I actually think that's what they use. Not hyperbole
No, it really is spray on bed liner lol
As for the size of the plates and how the bags fit you are much better than what you had before. But as for functionality of this carrier, there isn’t quite much that it does except hold the plates themselves. I don’t know what you plan to run in conjunction with this so you have some functionality out of it. But from what it looks like even if you run some kind of other rig over it, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be attaching to it in any kind of solid way. So it’s possible that whatever rig you decide to run over this, it’s going to be moving all over the place since it won’t be secured down to the carrier.Been a bit busy, but just an update. Got the cheap carrier I want to use for airsoft that is 8x10 with two backers in each pocket. Cheap solution and lets me see what 8x10 AR500 factor is going to look like. (Excuse the mirror being filthy this morning been busy and do to clean today.)
To me, this feels good. What are your thoughts @Will556? Seems to fit your definition. It's not a great carrier but if I'm using a rig over top it fits the bill as a backup to the MEPC.

This rig is more for me to see what 8x10 looks like so I can confirm with y’all that’s the right size for the MEPC.As for the size of the plates and how the bags fit you are much better than what you had before. Since it doesn’t look like there are any attachment options, you’ll have to get a full rig to run over it instead of something like a micro rig or a placard that could work with the carrier as a system. Running another full rig over the carrier might seem bulky depending on what you choose.
This one definitely fits you better than the older one. You’ll be much happier once you get the MEPC and get it squared away. Especially once you get real plates in there that aren’t steel and fit and weigh better. This rig is more for me to see what 8x10 looks like so I can confirm with y’all that’s the right size for the MEPC.
I’m running a type 56 AK rig over top of this carrier. So it’s got plenty of pockets and isn’t fussy or complex and holds a total of 6 AK74 mags.

I mean you can run the foam backers during airsoft. Once you get real plates, if you feel comfortable enough to wear them and don’t think you’re going to bash the complete shit out of them and tripping and falling all the time…then you could run them. It’s always good to train like you fight. But if you’re worried you might ruin them somehow, you could run an equivalent or just the foam inserts. Even the foam inserts will help get used to maneuvering and working around plates in the pc setup.I didn’t even buy real plates for this airsoft rig. They’re just foam backers in it right now. Is it worth getting steel for training only or just not bother? Might be a cheaper alternative that has similar weight.
I can get a cheap steel set for $42 for weight and not give a damn about them. Just for airsoft basically. I think they’re only about 5lbs a plate.I mean you can run the foam backers during airsoft. I can get them multi curve steel for I think another $8. So it’s possible. They’ll most likely be completely flat plates, maybe possibly only single curve plates. Which is ok since they’re cheap but might become uncomfortable after running with it for half a day. If you want to give it a shot, go for it. Worst case scenario is you can use them as targets to shoot at later.
God that is terrifying that people will actually buy that and use it for serious body armor…$35?! shittt, I have tiny accessories that are more expensive. Hey, if you feel comfortable running around with steel plates in your rig for airsoft, go for it. It’s not like anything bad is gonna happen to ya because of it. And like I mentioned before, you can always use them as targets to shoot at later. So I stand corrected in that they're not multi curve, but I can get these 8x10 plates for $35 a plate, curved, with pads. (I think pads are free afaik with their orders.)

The Level III AR500 / Lightweight Level III+ Steel Body Armor 8" x 10" Plate under Body Armor/Level III+ Lightweight from tactical.nextmp.net is ideal for maximum ballistic protection.tacticalscorpiongear.com
Might be a cheaper solution though that is just training plates with a curve?

I’d go curved if you have the option. Also should I get flat, or curved for if I'm using them for training? I'd assume at least curved would be closer to MC but it might be worse than just doing flat?
I agree, for your purposes it makes sense to get the steel plates for training instead of getting the “weighted plates”. They’re are both essentially the exact same thing. It makes no sense to pay more for the same product.I literally just am just considering them because every weighted plate in 8x10 is about $80-100 per plate. Literally actual armor is cheaper than weighted plates and 5lbs per plate is decent for training.
As I said this is like nothing to me weight wise. I ruck with 45lbs. I can carry easily the weight of plates which are more uniform than a 45lb sack or sandbag.

That happens a lot in the airsoft world. I’ve seen knockoff airsoft grade replicas of real gear go for more than the actual real counterparts. But since many airsofters don’t know any better they just buy the crappy quality products and waste their money.
