Good luck to her! Putnam county boarders Westchester, so I imagine that impacts our county's more strict regulations.
She might get approved before I do! Hahah

cgrutt,
Oh absolutely! Never had a misconception about that whatsoever. Only would prefer it over the sportsmen license due to it possibly being easier to obtaiin
I think you're not fully getting what I'm saying... there are no other options it's the same license / same process. If you're issued a CCW in NYS it's a full concealed carry license good in the home or on your person throughout NYS except for NYC and certain other areas eg school grounds, federal buildings etc. Your county may put administrative restrictions on it such as Sportsman. This is still the same license it's just now further restricted as to where you may carry concealed (and as @Darth pointed out carry no force of law but your licensing officer may revoke at anytime if you are caught carrying outside those restrictions). It's all the same license though. There is a separate type of license used primarily in NYC called a premises licence which you would not be able to carry on your person outside of premises stated on permit. Ignore all of this it's not what you'll be receiving. The Sportsman license is good in home and for the so called Sportsman activities. If there are no restrictions it is usually marked "Unrestricted" by county but it is still same license as the Sportsman and also good within your home. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Thank you for taking the time to explain that - I was perceiving the various restrictions as various types of permits.
No worries good luck. Think of them as restrictions where you may carry concealed outside the home per your licensing officer. Unfortunately each county does it differently so there is a lot of confusion throughout state. Important thing is it is in fact a concealed carry permit and certainly good for home defense you dont need another permit.
Wow. 3 days. My fiance submitted his application so long ago, I don't even remember when he submitted it and we're still waiting.
What did he apply for and did he have to put in a letter?
Putnam County to my knowledge does not require demonstration of "just cause"... Please post a copy of the application where it states that. Unless this is recent. Yes, Judge Reits passed away and was very 2A aware, as is the county. I believe it is (or was) the highest per capita handgun county in the State. Don't quote me though, lol.
Second thing is I smell troll... I'm cynical as is known, lol, and don't buy it when someone joins the forum and their first post is something so extraordinary on th' same day. Pardon me if I'm wrong.
For the matter, your long winded attempt to justify a necessity for exercising a "Right" is unfounded as there is nowhere in the "laws" of NY State where it is written requiring demonstration of "just cause". My response would be simple and succinct... Whether it be written on the application or asked in person (interview).
"FOR ALL LEGAL PURPOSES"
End of conversation...
That's it, no other explanation required. You'll need to figure it all out from there.
Have a nice day!
