I was honestly just trying to give a perspective for why they might be pushing for gun control. Then I was being quoted and told I was wrong and LGBTQs are not being oppressed. I explain that these laws, though they are found unconstitutional (eventually) still affect millions of Americans negatively, are designed to systematically oppress people based on sexual orientation, and are a reflection of the current hostility toward homosexuals and transgenders. If we weren't still actively oppressing them, we wouldn't have to continually bat down laws that are written to discriminate against them.

Your response to that is to repeat what I already said: that they were already struck down. Duh. The point is they are STILL being written, to this day. They are even still being enforced, despite being unconstitutional.

But according to you, as long as, in theory, it's illegal to discriminate, there can be no discrimination. That's baloney, and you know it. You're arguing in bad faith. Disclosure: didn't read the article. Don't really need to. All pro-gun control news reads the same.

That said, it makes sense why the gay trans communities would be for more gun control so I don't really blame them for their feelings. They're an historically disenfranchised and targeted demographic, and bad people use guns to oppress other people. When you're historically oppressed in a country where many of your attackers and political opponents are in pro-gun regions, it makes a certain degree of sense that you'd want to disarm them.

Especially these days. I can't imagine what it would be like to be gay or trans in a Republican county, going to your local polling place and realizing you're in line with dozens of people who will vote against your interests. And knowing they are most likely armed. It has to be nerve wracking.

I know, I know. The counter argument is that they could procure and train on those same guns to better defend themselves. But these are people who are massed in densely populated cities, famous for gun-free zone policies. They've grown up being bullied and belittled while being taught that guns are bad and only bad people have guns. I'm not saying it's right, just that I understand their POV. Guns are inextricably tied to Republicans, and Republicans are inextricably tied to anti-LGBTQ positions. Fair or not to any of you, as an individual, that's the reality.

There will never be a middle ground on this issue until we've decreased gun violence across the board; even then, I'm assuming many would continue to push until guns are effectively off-limits for the majority of Americans.

First of all, I'm not a part of the LGBTQ community, and I doubt they'd count me as an "ally." That doesn't stop me from understanding our country's history of oppression of many demographics, whether by race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, political affiliation, and on and on.

You want a form of oppression placed upon gay and trans people? Talk about low hanging fruit. They've been murdered for just being gay or trans. And murdered badly. As in hog-tied and dragged behind a truck. As in forced castration, physically and chemically. As in they're told they're fine to have their "perversions," so long as it doesn't interfere with anyone else, and then legislated against so they can't marry, adopt children, or even donate blood for Christ's sake.
