Thats what the armor and Gel block say...lolUltralight for caliber bullets are a dangerous gimmick.
Nope. I'll take 15 rounds of 9mm HPs over 7 rounds of .45 any damn day. But the 9mm did come before the the venerable .45 and you did imply cartridges that came after........The .45 ACP was perfection when created, they have only detracted from that ideal as time passes.

Don't look now friend but there is a 10mm over yonder what has a .45 bent over a barrel. Big 10 is really going to town over there, better bring the children in!.45 ACP is bitch'n allright!
Robin
Also for discouraging bears.10 is ideal only in gymnastics.

A polar bear wearing a leotard sure. That might even be more terrifying actually. No, I think they're wearing leotard's or some such thing.

Well the most successful addition after the .45 would have been the .40 S&W which if you look at the charts actually delivers more energy at the muzzle than the .45. As does the .357 SIG. I suspect the classic .38 Super does as well.
10mm makes .45 ACP its bitch.
The Hornady Critical Duty, SIG V-Crown and Remington bonded Golden Sabres are all gtg as well.Gimmick ammo is fun and all on paper. But I'll stick to prove designs 124/147 grain Federal HST or Speet Gold Dots
Funny you mention the 38 super. I've been looking at 1911's in 38 super and might add it to my list. No particular reason really but more of why the heck not?

I would agree those are good and not fall under gimmicks but I'll again stick to the two top ones I mentioned, especially when looking at cost
But again those arent gimmick rounds, they are based on proven designs
Well, I think it's a good idea to try out a wide variety of ammo because you never know what availability will dictate in the future. For examexa I know my top pick of the 124gr +P HSTs shoot just a tad low @10 yards out of my Glock 19, the Gold Dots shoot pretty much to POA, the Golden Sabers shoot a little low and left and the Critical Duty 135gr shoots a bit high. And critical duty needs a 4in barrel at minimum to even start being consistent

I also know that most standard pressure 124fr FMJ ammo shoots a little low while the Winchester White box NATO load shoots about POA all out of my Glock. The level of dispersion @10 yards isn't much but gets more pronounced at 25 yards obviously. Or so I presume. @25 yards I am happy if I can get everything on the paper. The point is that I know the POI of a variety of brands and I have verified reliable function with all of them in case I cant get the HSTs or there is a good deal on the other ones.
I would also say that if you mostly run 124gr +P defensive ammo the Winchester NATO load feels the same in terms of recoil, so I like to use that for training when possible.
Never a need for these gimmicks. No I completely agree. I'm just saying at this moment with no shortage there is no need for gimmicks...
I never said that the 147 is bad. I like it for woods carry in a solid projectile. It'll penetrate deeper than a 124 in soft tissue. There has been over 100 years of refinement on .45 and 9mm loads. Now while newer bullets my very from the classic norm for .45 you use a 230gr bullet, maybe the 185gr for the +P load.
For 9mm it's pretty much the 124gr and I don't care what @Willjr75 thinks the 147gr does well too. 115gr might be chancy for getting a combination of sufficient penetration and expansion. The classic 115 DPX +P+ load has good credentials though.
If that were true then .357 magnum is a gimmick too since they kinda were developed for the same reason and especially because they are right on top of each other ballistically.10mm is a gimmick.

Most standard pressure 147gr loads are subsonic so there is that. Getting a full power 9mm suppressed load is........ neat I suppose.I never said that the 147 is bad. I like it for woods carry in a solid projectile. It'll penetrate deeper than a 124 in soft tissue.
I just said that in a hollow point, you actually lose something with the 147. That something is speed. And speed penetrates hard barriers.
So what's the point in getting a 147 in a hollow point if the 124 penetrates into the same 12 to 18 inch window and in most cases depending on the name brand, the 124 penetrates an inch or 2 more than a 147 within that same 12 to 18 inch window?
