The precision carbines from savage like the one DSD got are an amazing value and they shoot like the house is on fire in any of the calibers available and w/o spending more in tacticool non-sense. They really deliver all over. Go tot he savage and LR forums and see people not just learning but also scoring with those.
If one wants to spend a bit more savage has the LRP that comes wiht their HS precision stock and these includes the full body large shank for extra rigidity
and extra wide barrel profile. Those are heavy rifles. The LBA10 is built on those. In reality is the model 16 target action but with a opened bottom for
a magazine. The same design is used in the mighty 338 lapua (in long action obviously) so in the short action those billets are as good as it gets and any build on them will challenge the rigidity and strength of $3K Remington 700 custom builds.
If that was not enough we know the savage 5R barrels compare to top makers in terms of consistency.
IMO, as of today, Savage delivers a lot more value than Remington out of the box at prices the working man can afford.
Also look what Bergara has done with the 700. It makes the SPS look like a cheap toy for the same price range. Even the Remington 5R is behind in
terms of that kind of innovation and consistency.
People want more w/o the need to spend an eye or having to take the action and pay extra to blue print, re-barrel and the works. At Remington they need to wake up. I love he 700 but it feels like Remington fell asleep at the wheel.
