M&P 2.0 Compact Review

I know its not a new pistol but guess it has not been available with 10 round mags until recently. I only fired 40 rounds through it and nothing comparable the same night. In first handling the pistol I really didnt like it at all. The balance felt off and the trigger had a ton of pre-travel on top of a trigger shape that I did not like. I was so disappointed with it I almost decided not to shoot it. Firing it was a totally different ball game, with mag and ammo the balance was good and the trigger pre-travel was not notable. Also the trigger shape did not bother me while shooting. The bad thing was the Gun Center installed the HD sights with the front blade way off center so it was grouping about 3 inches left at 10 yards, but the grouping was good. A tale of 2 cities for sure, if handling in the shop only I would say this thing sucks but shooting its was a whole different experience. I never felt a pistol that felt bad in the had but fired so well. The stranger thing is that I loved everything about the full sized model. Defiantly a weird experience but thought I would share anyway. Maybe I will get a chance to shoot it side by side with a G19 for comparison next week and if so I will report back.

I got to handle one at a shop a while back, sadly didnt get to shoot it. It was used and still had the large grips on it.

I really loved it even with the grips, but the trigger (and the shop wanting $40 over what I could get a new one online plus transfer fee) killed it for me, it felt terrible. But could be a simple fix with an apex trigger. Otherwise it felt great in the hand

Intents and purposes? Specifically is the grip length the same? Width? I ask because the main reason I like the 19 is because it is just small enough for me to disappear IWB under a heavy T shirt. Most of the G19's competitors are slightly larger and even that small margin makes the difference for me.

This is why I say all intents and purposes,

Actually I'm getting some conflicting numbers (Smith doesnt have the height on their sight.) But the 2.0 is I believe shorter at 5" and the G19 (on glocks sight) 5.04" (including magazine)

I wouldn't take Smith's, or some reviewer's words on the "vast improvement" thing.
Any improvement is bound to be small this leaving the M&P trigger as less than stellar.
But I think trigger feel is overrated in a working pistol like an M&P anyway.

Agreed - it’s no target pistol for sure. I have an M&P9 1.0 and IMO trigger was gritty without a clean break. Fixed it with an Apex.

Fired one mag out of it last night with the sights now centered and group it very tight. Of the 4 different shooters who shot it the groups were impressive for all of us. That said I do not like this pistol much in the hand but can not believe how well I shoot it, weird.

I was able to compare a G19 gen 5 to it (not shooting) with one in each hand and holding them together I could not notice any size differences. The Smith looks more bulky but stacking them together I cant tell you it is. Without trying them is holsters I would assume concealment would be no different between them.

This pistol is over 500 rounds and no issues.

To me the M&Ps compare very favorably to the Glocks in terms of in the hand feel. Glocks feeling pretty awful to me. I've never held the new Compact but the full size feels good in my hands. I like the M&P line in general, the best alternative to Glocks for sure.

Ive always liked the the m&p especially now the 2.0 compact. My thing is they always look to have a higher bore axis than glock, but really dont

Not for nuthin' but they look a lot better too.
I like the relief cuts on the slide and the fish scale serrations. Not at all over done, still quite buisness like, but pleasing nonetheless.

No I agree tbh, I love the look of glocks tbh, but the mp does look better and feels good. But at the same time the trigger is so so so bad.

One in 10mm would be fun

It would not be unreasonable to solve the smith vs glock decision with a coin flip imo.

Did you have the mags modified or were they factory 10-rounders? I've had my 2.0 Compact for a year and S&W refuses to say when factory 10-rounders will be available. I must have gotten lucky because my trigger is really good. I don't have the numbers handy (pretty sure I posted them before), but the trigger was lighter than my Apex-modded 2.0 Fullsize.

I must have gotten lucky because my trigger is really good. I don't have the numbers handy (pretty sure I posted them before), but the trigger was lighter than my Apex-modded 2.0 Fullsize.

I have yet to see the MP 2.0 9c in local stores. I suspect that not having factory 10rd mags is the main reason.

I forgot to mention something in the initial report like in the 43x report. Shame on me...

The grip texture is very sharp!! some will love it others may not. I do have softer hands based on my work in full discloser. I could see the grip rubbing bad against bare skin if you dont ware an undershirt. If I were to buy this pistol I would likely take some fine sandpaper and take the sharp texture down a little.

Yep good point. Some people find it TOO aggressive, but I like it. I always wear an undershirt so haven't had it irritate my skin. I haven't used it in a class yet (because of lack of mags) but would imagine you'd have zero issues with sweat/mud/etc and holding onto it.

Like it or not Glock is the pistol all else are compared to....

I just mean Glock offers just about every possible configuration in all the major calibers. If you want it, Glocks got it. S&W is a large and established gun maker. There should be a 2.0 M&P in every size, variety and caliber, just like Glock. I shouldn't still be begging S&W for a 10mm M&P for example.

Idk does glock have the g23 (example) in the gen 5s?
