Well you can see in the videos that the Garand is more abrupt. Its perfectly safe though.
What I find interesting is the high weight and fine ergonomics of the Garand can do so much to tame a powerful cartridge like the 30-06 in an action that we now know unlocks under pretty high pressure. This same issue is what led the the mid length gas system in carbine length ARs.

30-06 has a max pressure of 60,200 psi however the M1 Garand was designed to work at 50,000 psi, the port pressure when it starts the unlocking process is between 6000 and 8000 psi.

The M16 chambered with the 5.56 (max pressure of 62,000 psi) the port pressure is 10,000 psi (rifle length) 17,000 psi (carbine length) when it starts the unlocking process.

The m16 has more chamber pressure (albeit with less volume) than the M1 Does when it starts the unlocking process.
