They obviously didn't, and couldn't handle the situation, somebody called the cops. And then they are shouting because of the consequences of someone attempting to kill others...

They prefer a darwinian survival of the fittest environment where behavior like this is common. What I don't know is just how wide spread this belief is. On first viewing, I did not even see the knife. On replay, the shooting looked legit to me. The woman in pink was saved from serious injury, or death, by the quick actions by the police officer.
