Works pretty great, nice quality and shoots well for a take-down rifle with open sights. 3" groups offhand at 50 yards with 5 cent ammo unless I blow it (which I can do well!) Package is 20" long so it won't fit nicely in my typical book bag daypack but I'll probably enjoy finding a good pack for it. It can use QD slings from my larger guns which is nice, they make a lot of sense for a two piece rifle. Feels solid. Rear stock has a latching door that can hold a 10-round Ruger magazine and a 50-round box of 22lr ammo. Grip has a compartment with an O-ring so you could put even more survivalist stuff in there.

The previous 10/22 I had got boring because it worked so damn well... this one does as well but I think I'll keep it as it seems very practical.

This is my next project.. I have the Stock (in Black, was on sale a few weeks ago), but I'm getting an extra 10/22 Takedown soon to use. Was thinking of throwing an extra Bushnell TRS-25 on but would throw off the compact size, that's the only downside with this design I can see.

Well the OD Green Magpuls have consistently higher test scores and exhibit greater evidence of taking personal responsibility and delaying gratification. But the Black stocks are widely used in professional sports and seem to have a delightful sense of humor.

I purchased the Ruger BX-trigger (on sale along with the Magpul stock), but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have just paid a little more for the 'Kidd' upgrade. Haven't installed it yet so can't comment on the Ruger trigger upgrade.

I used the $60 Ruger BX upgraded trigger and it seems fine, to me it has a too long reset but I have to get used to it.

Prior I had an upgraded trigger from a place that modifies stock triggers with polishing and better springs, that was also a decent trigger and not very expensive but you have to send him your stock trigger to be worked on.

There are numerous other options in 10/22 as well as YouTube videos for DIY trigger jobs. Rimfire Central has a lot of 10/22 information.

Of course you can get a lot of Kidd and Volquartzen parts and build a $1500 10/22 with no actual Ruger parts ;-p

My other comments on this set up is that it is not particularly lightweight and the muzzle crown is left unprotected. I'd like to buy or make a rubberized cap for the muzzle to protect it. I'd also like to find a compact sleeve 20" x 10" x 2" to hold the gun and keep it clean in transit.

Also while the stock fold down sight works fine, I see a lot of the aftermarket peep type sights are not ideal for the takedown (common complaint is that their front sight is too high when mounted on the take down rather than fixed rifle). Adding a red dot looks cool but significantly increases the size and makes it more awkward to pack. I can live with the stock sights but I'd consider alternatives if they are specific to the take down rifle.

This is a very interesting combo. I too have gotten bored with my regular old 10/22, maybe I'll get a setup like this too.

No-name 'Viton' bolt buffer (rubber thingy for bolt)
No-name knurled extended bolt handle
Extended magazine release

I got a cheapo red dot from Amazon I was going to try (also have an extra Bushnell TRS-25), but apparently the rail that comes with the Ruger sucks? So I'll have to get a new one. I hate iron sights, or at least my eyes do..

And of course because we're in NewYorkistan, I couldn't get this awesome deal - 10/22 Takedown X-22 Backpacker

I had already purchased my Takedown when I saw this sale, but DAMN what a deal.. comes with 4 mags too! I wonder how much it would have cost to have the thread cap pinned.. That's literally about $50 more than what I paid for just the rifle..
