Man Arrives Home To Find Door Open, Gets Gun From Car, Shoots Two Intruders: What Would You Do?

I don't understand how the man could arrive home (Title of story) to find his door open but then be awoken to find burglars in his house? "The homeowner awoke to find his back door kicked in. " Which is it? Whatever really happened, I'm glad he was able to protect himself. I carry everywhere I go.

I have the opposite situation.
If someone was dumb enough to go into our house with all the snarling and growling, they would have a very difficult time getting back out. Seriously, my dogs are very well trained and they know the difference between friends and foes.
I would call the cops and an ambulance for the unfortunate bad guys.

I would have gone into the house and took care of the situation at hand. The incident would have been ended by me. My house, my stuff.

Granted, I would not have a need to return to the car because the gun would have been on my person.

THE TITLE OF THE ARTICLE IS MISLEADING

Police believe two men specifically targeted a homeowner in a late-night home invasion that ended with one of them killed and another gravely wounded. The event happened late at night during a week day. The homeowner awoke to find his back door kicked in. When he went out to his car to get his handgun, he turned around to face two intruders. He used the handgun to shoot both of them — one dying at the scene and another escaping. That second suspect was found by police at a hospital some distance away from the event. After he is stabilized, he will be charged with the burglary.

The guy didn't ARRIVE home and then go in. He was home asleep, he heard noise, he LEFT his home to get his gun out of the car (why the hell is your gun locked in the car while you're home asleep??), and then went back in.

You don't have to sell it to me. I'm ok with shooting an intruder, even if you could have retreated. It's your house and they made the choice to violate that.

If I know there are BGs in the house, call LE for sure, I don't want to get shot at if I can avoid it.

OTOH, I can't call the cops everytime something goes bump in the night, but I can arm myself while I investigate.

Run to a space space and beg the police to come. Safest thing to do from a legal perspective. Brave, eh? But if you're already outside it's not clever to go back in. Legally it's fine in texas at least but who knows if they are armed also....

It's funny you brought this up my and my wife were having a debate on this subject. I was for this line of thought and she's against it. Her argument then won me over. Her agreement was he didn't kill his friend so why should he be charged with it. It's so simple that's it's hard to argue against. It's a pretty slippery slope to go down charging people for crimes they didn't commit.

The wounded guy should have the book thrown at him (actually I prefer he was killed in the incident), but being charged for murder doesn't work for me.

IF your a concealed permit hold you have to run these situations through your head and be ready. Otherwise you'll do something dumb like that guy and leave the gun in your car.

If my family's not in the house it yours. If my family in side with you your not going to like the outcome cause I risk my life everyday for people I don't know. So I'm more then willing to give my life for those I love.
