I made a jig to let me regrind the engagement surfaces on the hammers to get rid of some of the creep before the trigger breaks. I expect to go through a few trial and error pieces before I find the sweet spot.

Trying to recontour the bottom of the hammer. The more of the sear I can grind away, the less distance the trigger has to drag over before it lets the hammer fall. That means less creep.

If I were to go too far, the sear won't catch on the trigger on reset after the disconnector lets go - then....pew pew pew!

I'm using a fixture on my mill to do the metal removal, so I'm able to remove less than 0.001" at a time. I have done a couple that feel pretty good and one that might be too far, but am trying to determine where the sweet spot is.

This has been done by a bunch of people before you. The problem is these parts are surface hardened. Softer metal underneath. This trigger job will last a few hundred times and then it will crap out. I know you are not going to listen, but just giving you the heads up.

I've heard similar stories, but am a bit stubborn and like to f**k stuff up myself!

These MIM parts don't show any signs of surface hardening from the factory. That includes where the sear was originally ground out. My understanding of the MIM process is that the material is exceptionally uniform. So the metal I expose should be the same as what DPMS OR whoever made this thing exposed. On top of that, I'm not touching the factory trigger engagement surface of the sear - just taking a little off the tip. So if there is some kind of magical surface coating making the wear surface more resilient that I can't see, I'm not removing it.

Fun story - about 20 years ago I worked for a testing laboratory. There was a big pile of old equipment there that was getting thrown away. I picked out a small drill press and some other crap and left behind a Rockwell hardness testing set-up - probably worth $1500 or more with the test standards. That thing would come in handy right now.

I'm pretty sure the parts are a uniform hardness throughout. I just picked up a set of hardness testing files to test it, but haven't had a chance yet.

Older guns with parts made of mild steel were case hardened to make the wear surfaces more durable. That's why you'll see case color hardening on revolver triggers and hammers. Case hardening is a lot of work with some expensive tools - not easy for the home gamer.
