That's a bit lower than MSRP innit? The Mini is a solid rifle and compliant with NYS laws without having to change anything so if you like it @drilling go ahead and get it. I don't think you would be unhappy with it, unless you are trying to get cloverleaf groups on paper.
My only concern is what the current availability of 10 round magazines is. Historically they have been a little difficult to find.

To add on to @Podmonkey's point, Mini mags are also more expensive than AR mags. Generally.
I did a little innernets research and found a variety of online sellers such as Brownells and a variety of others that have the 10 round Ruger magazines in stock and with prices ranging from $25 to $50. $25 ain't too bad, $250 would get all a person might reasonably need.
The Ruger mags are very high quality. The Promag ones I don't think I'd bother with.

from what i have heard .. some off brand mini-14 mags give issues for some dang reason .. lots say to stick with the expensive ruger mags and suck it up ..

My experience is that that are just as accurate and reliable as a non-free float m4gery.

I dont know what they're going for right now but if I were in the market for something in 5.56/.223 this is where I'd go (of course I already have two and a half neutered AR's in that chambering so... I'm good.)

As long as it's a 580 series, it's a good deal. Pick it up and don't look back. They are not an AR and I think people should stop comparing them to AR's. It's a solid 100yrd semi-auto rifle that is worry free (for now anyway) in ban states and it also has a similar action to the Garand and M14, which I love. I love mine. Let us know if you end up buying it and definitely post up some pics.
100 yards? Against tin cans maybe. You can take a Mini out to the effective range of 5.56.
The standard Mini 14 has an 18" barrel right?

I'm not getting pissy, I'm just opining that a Mini 14 is solid to 200 yards. I don't really know but I'd like to research it. I had a Mini 14 once and it was more accurate than I was lead to expect.
They are pretty light too.

I picked mine up for $675. No tax, no shipping, just transfer. And since I purchased five guns from Ruger at the same time, my FFL cut me a break on the transfer fees.
@drilling , $750.00 is about right as the dealer wholesale price is around $600.00 (So I've been told) I did pick-up mine (581 model) a few years ago at the Saratoga Gun Show (used but un-fired) for $600.00.

If you're willing to do some work and some research, Perfect Union is the place to visit. You can take a so so Mini 14/30 and wind up with a dang nice shooter.

At least the mini is designed to use a traditional stock and has the charging handle in the right place (not too far forward).
