Of course it's perfectly legal to have 10 round .450, or socom mags. That wouldn't fly. "Readily restorable" . They would have you in handcuffs.

I have a few different AR platforms for predator hunting. They all have 10 round mags fixed in them. WHILE HUNTING
I believe it is called "constructive intent".NY does not require you to add the caliber to your permit before acquiring the upper.
Maybe before assembling the gun, but certainly not before acquiring the upper.
Constructive intent only applies if you cannot assemble the parts into a legal configuration AFAIK.I believe it is called "constructive intent".
If you have the upper and a lower it can go on, then you have the prohibited firearm.
And I don't know if it is a county-by-county thing, but my pistol permit requires the caliber. so if I get a .22 upper for my 1911 I have to amend my permit to show 45/22.
You don't "take delivery of" barrels though. From what I understand is that in the past nys would allow it the caliber to be listed as “multi” which is no longer the case. Now every caliber has to be listed on your permit. My girlfriends dad just picked up a contender pistol and was required to have all 10 calibers that came with it listed on his permit. He was told if he wished to have additional calibers for it that he would first need to add them to his permit before taking delivery of said barrels.
When I was at the range last week there was a local cop there who was being a hard ass. He was checking everybody’s permit who was shooting a handgun to see if 1) they had a permit, and 2) if what was on your permit matched what you had for caliber. You don't "take delivery of" barrels though.
They just go to your door. The mailman isn't checking permits.
"But what if you're at the range and you have the gun in a configuration...and hardass cop...and run your serials...and"
Come on. We do this to ourselves.
Someone seriously needs to sue his ass (and his department) over that. When I was at the range last week there was a local cop there who was being a hard ass. He was checking everybody’s permit who was shooting a handgun to see if 1) they had a permit, and 2) if what was on your permit matched what you had for caliber.
all it takes is one hard ass cop or one ex wive to call you in saying you have an unregistered caliber and your permit is toast.

Absolutely an illegal search. When I was at the range last week there was a local cop there who was being a hard ass. He was checking everybody’s permit who was shooting a handgun to see if 1) they had a permit, and 2) if what was on your permit matched what you had for caliber.

(sarcasm) Are you kidding? On what grounds was he demanding to see permits ? Tell him to pound sand. If there is no crime being comitted, there is no probable cause to want to see a permit. I would absolutely file a complaint at the very least, and probably a civil rights suit.
He may be politically connected at that range.I can't believe the range wouldn't ask him to leave.

They will say if you have a 45 caliber pistol serial # 12345 registered, but you are found with a 9mm pistol serial #12345 that you have an unregistered gun.I'm sorry... But the frame of a pistol is registered...
Why the fuck does the caliber matter? Especially after the frame is registered?
And possession of uppers doesn't require registration, so why would anyone register a different caliber? Swap a slide and barrel on a pistol and you're breaking what penal code exactly? Where's the case precedent/law?
More worrying about the Big Bad Wolf that never comes!
Update on everything. Reached out to lawyers and have not heard back yet. Contacted FPC, NYSRPA and GOA and have not heard back yet. Had to contact the firearms investigation personal with monroe county sheriffs per the letter today. Spoke on the phone today. Was told it was flagged due to asking about having a bunch of different calibers. They did not believe it would be capable of supporting all the listed calibers with the same fixed magazine. Explained to them that for some of the calibers some of the uppers would ultilize the magazine as semi auto, and that some would be single shot. The response given was that each caliber would have to specified as semi auto or bolt action on the permit. Essentially each type of action would have to be specified with each type of caliber. Then inquired with them as to how to do that, the response was given that an AR type firearm can never be a pistol. When inquired further their response was that because nys does not define pistol that they default to the federal definition of a pistol.
From how the conversation went today, we have been told by Monroe county officials that they do not believe that it is in any way possible for an AR15 / AR10 pistol to actually legally be a pistol and instead must be something else.
Another example of NY's poorly worded laws to confuse people. An ar can 100% be a pistol, as you know, and evidenced by the 10's of thousands of them sold, but try to explain that to the people whose job it is to know.the response was given that an AR type firearm can never be a pistol.

Sounds like they are moving forward with the ATF idea that all AR-platform pistols are going to be re-designated as SBRs.From how the conversation went today, we have been told by Monroe county officials that they do not believe that it is in any way possible for an AR15 / AR10 pistol to actually legally be a pistol and instead must be something else.

The range should have refused to allow him access and those at the range should have refused to allow him access to their guns. Sorry buddy do you have a warrant and what probably cause do you have to enter here or check my guns?Find a different place to shoot.
And who is the "cop checking permits?" In official capacity? Then REALLY find a different range and post their info so nobody accidently goes there.
Just for shits and giggles? "No thank you" and have the trespasser removed. They certainly wouldn't be searching any ammo.
Stop this cowering shit.
I’m glad I never did an AR pistol after all of this.Update on everything. Reached out to lawyers and have not heard back yet. Contacted FPC, NYSRPA and GOA and have not heard back yet.
