He did, with a few caveat's. He also promised to support Moore strongly in the general election this November if he won the primary.

I don't see it as doing a 180. Realistically, Trump had to support Strange as he was a sitting US Republican Senator, - despite the shenanigans in LA that got him appointed to Sessions seat. I view it that Trump did his best to thread the needle and see who came out on top, and then throw his support behind him.
