So a 5;30 i'm sitting on the can taking care of business when the dogs start going ape shit. A couple minutes later my wife is hollering, somebody is prowling around the house, I hear her open the garage door and real scared says there is a man out side. We live at least a hundred yards off the road, a back road, and there is no reason for anyone to be out there a that time of morning, so I gather myself, grab some iron, tell my wife to call 911 and bolt out the door. My ATV was about fifteen feet from the garage and there is guy in front of it, he turns and starts walking words me talking and I cannot understand a word he is saying, when he gets a little closer I can see he is a black guy, kind of rare here about, maybe eighteen with a hoody, I put my hand at arms length, grab the .45 in the small of my back with the other hand and hollered, get the fuck out of here, he's mumbling something I can't understand and I just said get the fuck out of here, and I'm thinking he must be drugged up, simple minded, or something else, finally he leaves and I here him talking to someone up by the road and see a car out there as well, its still fairly dark. They start walking toward my closest neighbors house, a woman alone, and my wife, outside now, on the phone with 911, does an OMG and relays this to the 911 people. It took over ten minutes for the first cop to arrive. I look at my ATV and the kid had rifled through an old ruck sack I keep woods tools in and the tools, a machete, big knife , hand ax, nippers were on the ground, later the cop told me he was looking for the garage door remote hoping to find a gas can in there. I told the Deputy that if he had had one of those tools in his hand when I confronted him we would be having a different conversation. Anyway, another guy down the road also called the coppers when he saw one of them on his porch. Turns out they were actually looking for gas, pretty stupidly, but thats what the told the police. The one guy 19 had stolen the car from his parents, for the forth time, and they were pressing charges and the had some pot. While the deputies at talking to him he tries to make a run for it and get body slammed to the pavement, cuffed and tossed into the back of the Sheriff's SUV, while me and a few of the folks from our hood, we call it Hooterville, are jawboning ten yards away.
All in all, a pretty exciting morning and should make for a boring rest of day. I'm just thankful I didn't have to kill somebody.
