Well, my budget build's budget went a little sideways (as usual), but came out pretty well. A couple pics for anyone interested.

Howa 1500 24" .308 heavy profile barreled action ($289 shipped from Brownells)
AB Arms Mod X Gen 3 chassis with folder (can't post price due to agreement with AB Arms)
Burris Signature XTR rings (20 MOA inserts installed) $80 used/as new
Athlon Chronus BTR MIL 4.5-29 X 56 $1200 used/new (was brand new factory swap for a semi broken used one)
Vortex flip caps $60-ish
Sunshade $29
Caldwell swivel bipod (Harris clone) $40
Witt Machine clamp on brake $112
Also sending the bolt to LRI to have it fluted $25. Will probably send the barrel later on for the same treatment.

Haven't shot it yet, but it'll shoot sub MOA on decent ammo and even better with my hand fed Lapua brass rounds.

Ya, Witt makes them custom for your barrel dimensions. They work. A consequence is my Magnetospeed bayonet may not fit now. Sad face.

Clamp on brakes always did worry me a touch, to the point where I've been hesitant to use one. Probably irrational and will only be overcome by using one personally.

Ya, not my first choice, but budget build...I may thread the barrel at some point, but for now these work well.

same here .. seen a quite a few reports of clamp on flying off .. can't say on what brands there were ..

seen some melt down test video and even screw on brakes go flying some times ..

lots of metal movement from shooting and not ( cool off time ) .. back to hot ..

would be a good thing to just check them screws from time to time with a clamp on brake ..

lock tite wont help. that's how you get the screw out .. heat it up

I use blue Loktite. It stays put even on a brake. If you're not checking the torque of every bolt/screw etc every so often, you should be. Consistency starts with things being in the same place every time.

As soon as the bolt comes back from LRI we're taking it out to play. My buddy bought a Weatherby Vanguard Chassis that we need to play with as well. We'll get some video of both going pew pew pew.
