The one where everyone is locked down like they are on house arrest, have their life savings stolen by pampered rich people, told what they can do and when they can do it, or the one where people decide if the risks are worth it for them?

Whether it is a new bug that is infecting people, a new round of terrorists killing people, or a giant rock hurtling toward Earth, any infringement on the Rights of The People must be clearly explained as to the scope and purpose, the ultimate outcome desired, and a clearly defined cut-off date, to the best of the available knowledge.
To justify those infringements you need to show, without a doubt, that they are the ONLY way to limit or prevent a catastrophic event.

So far, the numbers for this particular bug haven't reached any of the "models", and are barely higher than known bugs. Certainly what has been presented has not reached the criteria to SHUT THE WHOLE DAMNED PLANET DOWN.

U.S. and many other governments were too late in taking action. The idea that no action was warranted is not even in the realm of rational debate.
Politicians need gullible fools to argue extreme and irrational positions, which they can't do with a straight face. The left has Antifa, the right has people like you. The government will mishandle this just as it mishandles everything else, but it's not a reason to adopt flat-earth views or allow yourself to be used like an ass-wipe for politicians who will not do anything for you except use you like an ass-wipe.

I'll define the common good for you if you like. And if you don't like it, you'll like it anyway. Beatings will continue until morale improves.

As for our resident stalinist's claims that we have no national unity, actually we've seen an awful lot of "national unity for common good" already. Most of us are sitting at home, either not working or working remotely, and then wearing masks. This despite the fact we've known even from the beginning, and nobody argues, that the bulk of us have really no chance of even getting symptoms from this. So we've kept our kids home from school, so that they can all become intellectually delayed, in the name of protecting others. How much more national unity do we need?

Spat was one of the lucky ones. Receiving the treasured blue notice in his mailbox that lazy July summer day, he was to report within 72 hours to his local medical center to assist on the front lines with solving the european virus crisis. Taking part in this was, of course, entirely optional. Those who were unable to report within 72 hours were visited by the newly formed center for virus containment and given a free ride to the testing centers, and over 99% of those who received a notice volunteered right away. Volunteers were eager to help! Many were involved in testing the new regimens. Sadly, some got sick during this, which helped focus the country on just how dangerous covid 19 really was.

In the subsequent years families often visited the memorial setup for the Blue Notice Heroes who, without having volunteered, we could not have found such an effective vaccine.
