I am moving to New York and was wondering what I should do with my handguns. I previously read that I will need a permit simply to own them. But after doing more research I found this thread which references a bunch of cases that a handgun without a firing pin or with a damaged firing pin is inoperable and therefore legal to possess. They even link the jury instructions to prove this point.
Should I just leave my firing pins or other parts which render the handgun operable out of state until I get my permit? I heard the process there takes a year or two and I am moving within a few months.
