I had a similar experience in my past. Worked OTR as a commercial HVAC repair guy for a multi billion dollar international company but we didn't wear uniforms, just jeans and t-shirts, no logos on them. Was sent somewhere, can't remember the location, to fix an 11 floor apartment complex during initial construction. Worked a 14 hour day and decided to call it and head to the hotel room. In the previous week, the VP of sales went to the site to see the issue first hand and stayed at the same hotel. This is where its gets kinda funny. Now mind you, that was the VP. Swank is the norm. Lead tech for repair? At best, Holiday Inn Express ( dam fine breakfast buffet I must say). Mostly dive motels for 35/ night. Ya know monthly, hell hourly rates.

Home office screwed up. Booked me at the same hotel as the VP the prior week.

Drive to the hotel in the rental, tools is the back. Hell will it, going to run with it, valet park the SOB. Expense the entirety of the trip. To hell with it. Walk into the lobby, grungy and dirty from a solid days work. Literally EVERYONE walking in is in tuxedos and evening gowns. Walk to the counter, ask what's going on. Counter staff states , " Today the Marriott is holding thier annual management ball. They wanted something upscale so they rented our banquet facilities ".

Swank was an understatement.

Mind you, this is where the home office decided to put us up for the week. I approach the check in area. The gentlemen behind the counter looks at me, down his nose might I add and says " You must be the air conditioning service guys. How quaint. Unit is on the roof. You can't be seen in the lobby. Please use the service entrance located behind the building ". With a smile i hand his my preprinted reservation form, company credit card and kindly tell him to fuck off and that the room service better be on the house for his shitty statement. Stopped short of being a Ken, but made my point known. From that point forward we were treated like kings as senior management stayed there often, and I took full advantage of reminding them they weren't the only game in town. Also helped that daily debriefings to senior management was part of my job nightly, and I made it known how we were treated.

The room service was spectacular from that night forward; ).
